Ok we know we can not edit our adds except where you will let us, i have been told by the moderaters the reason for this is because people will start pulling all there adds from this site, this is what i was told. so whats wrong with pulling our own adds or editing them? Is there some kind of content quota that some one paycheck is tied to? i for one want to here the whole story on this. is it harmfull to the site to have defunct info on here? What is the purpose of keeping items and threads on here that really do not exist?

I get messages and phone calls on stuff I sold months ago. I always put a SOLD post up, but the add stays intact. I agree it would be nice to be able to delete or edit as items are sold, prices change etc....without involving a mod.

Right now there is a 14 day window in which you can self-edit a post.

If you would like to have the post CLOSED, or MOVED off of the public forum, ask and Super-Mod and they will be happy to assist you.

OR.

Use the new Classifieds section which has NO limits on it.

I'm sorry Christopher, but just yesterday, I tried to delete a post of mine in the classified section because I made an error, and wanted to send a PM instead. The site would not let me delete my post.

Perhaps it is intended that there would be no limits, but I had a different experience.

Hope this helps, have a good day

The classifieds work a little different than the rest of the forums.

Open your ad.
Then on the display page, look in the top right corner of the ad for a little "Options" link.

Click on that and a drop list will appear.
Click on DELETE
Then go down to the BOTTOM of the page and you will see a checkbox asking you to confirm the deletion.

Tick that check box and your ad will vanish away.

Though, there is some real value to all the other users in you using the SOLD option instead.

Sure is nice to be able to see what was sold and for how much when your trying to price things.

Christopher, thank you for your prompt reply, and the clarification. Is there a technical (IT) reason that the delete function works differently in the classified section?

It would be nice to have consistency throughout the forum.

The way I understand it, the classifieds section is a completely different form of software that acts completely independently of the main forum (thus the physical appearance difference).

The original swapmeet section is merely another section of the main forum, completely linked in every way to the settings that govern the main forum, the only difference is the name. That's why one has 'unrestricted' controls and the other does not.

In the beginning the classifieds was designed to be a total replacement for the swapmeet, but there are some big differences that some people do not like, as well as the ability for the moderators as a group to work on... As far as we know, there is no way for a moderator to move an errand "For Sale' post out of the main forum and into the classifieds, they are just too dis-similar for the two to 'talk to one another'.

Sorry for the long reply, I hope some of that makes sense.:)
