I wanted to post this information here in the Montana and Idaho sections since both states fall into the Northern Rockies ecosystem.
The Northern Rockies Avalanche Safety Workshop is on again this year at the Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish Montana on October 13th at 8am-5pm followed by drinks at the new Casey's Bar in Whitefish. The website can be found at http://www.avalanchesafetyworkshop.com/. I joined the Steering Committee this year in hopes to get more of our motorized brethren to think safety and get in the mindset of being prepared to save our fellow riders in case disaster strikes. I was buried two seasons ago and it forever changed my perspective on the dangers and lack of knowledge that exists in the motorized and non-motorized community. Almost half of all avalanche fatalities last year involved snowmobiles (and we had our first snowbike incident last year in NW Montana).
This year I've been fortunate enough to add several motorized sponsors including Timbersled. Timbersled and Cascade Rescue will have a booth at this years seminar that showcases the Moutain Horse and the Cascade Toboggan rescue system currently deployed in the field for Search and Rescue teams and area ski resorts for injured skier/snowboarder retrieval. More can be seen on this system at Cascade Rescue.
The entry fee is $25 and last year we packed the place to the gills. We expect to sell out of spots before the day of the event, so be sure to register and send in your $25. If you are a business that would like to support this cause please contact me about being a sponsor through the board or by emailing me at rush44@gmail.com.
Look forward to seeing you at the Workshop!
