hey guys

sorry if this is beating a dead horse
I did some searching and found some info, but wanted to ask anyways

I brought home my new 2012 RMK 600 144 last night
obviously im a few months away from riding but ..... how should this engine be "broke in"?

i have been reading about adding some oil directly to the tank for the first few rides
using a semi syn vs syn etc.....
how many kms/rides till she's "broke in"?

it came w a gold color oil (not the blue ive been reading about) about half tank full

also on past sleds (this is my first new one) ive always used IPONE (the strawberry smellin stuff)
is this ok to use after break in? (big debate I know, but more curious on just switching oils)

thanks for your help

Curious what your dealer told you, if anything...

they didn't......
other than to "ONLY USE POLARIS VE5 gold full synthetic, as its formulated for these new tight engines..."

they did a good job of going through the sled and showing me different things, and basics as i used to ride Doo
but that was about it

This is how I break in all motors...I heat cycle them in the garage a few times(sraise the track off the ground, check all fluid levels, fire up and keep the throttle moving, from 1/8th throttle up to about 3/8 throttle till it hits 180 degrees on the guage..shut off and let cool to room temp) after doing this 3-4 times its ready to ride..same deal check all fluid levels, warm up to at least 120 degrees and take off...when riding, try to keep the throttle moving always, from idle to full throttle(from the start of the ride to the 30-40 mile mark I go from just slapping the throttle lever to the bars and back off to gradually holding it to the bars for longer and longer time as the miles add up...every time I stop for any reason I will glance under the sled and look for any signs of fluid leakage, check the oil tank to verify that it is using oil(about 1 qt for 10 gallons of gas), and check the coolant bottle to make sure the coolant level isnt low...thats pretty much it and sleds always run great....avoid letting any motor sit and idle when new..and I do add about a 1/4 qt of blue oil to the first tank of fuel...

The oil in your tank allready is ves Blue semi synthetic oil without the dye even though it looks gold its actually blue oil.

FYI, There's a Gold Plus, also, speced for the CFI-2 800's. Different than Gold. FWIW. Don't know about your 6 with the new CFI-2. The difference in specs is relative to how much they've leaned out the oil pumps to meet EPA requirements while still surviving, at least for awhile. All part of the new reality for a stock sled. Check oil usage after she's broke in, and adjust accordingly. Some are as lean as 50:1 with the 8's, despite what the pump setting is at. It's about longevity here. Shoot for at least 40:1, down to 32:1.

My dealer put oil in the gas tank and left a tag on the tank that it already had oil so I wouldn't do it again. You want some non synthetic oil in the gas tank for break in. I am going to turn up the oil adjustment screw(several threads here on this) permanently. Use the semi syn for break in which my dealer put in the oil tank already. I am going to run the engine pretty hard right off the bat. I think seating the rings is the only goal to "break in" on modern engines and you have one shot at this when new. My break in will last about 15 minutes. I prolly won't hammer it for long periods of time though until I burn off the oil in the oil tank and get synthetic in it. This is a pretty controversial topic. People have strong feelings on both sides of this. If it blows on break in I have a warranty. If the rings don't seat I have a dog motor for 1000 miles.
