NON ETHANOL PUMP GAS... USA ?????

With all the changes to recent gasoline blending regulations and ethanol content in the USA, I wanted to find out some things.

Looking for DEFINITIVE answers here with locations, phone numbers, business names etc...

Many things have changed even from just last season...

SO.....

The questions are:

  • [*]Is Non ethanol fuel available from the pump in your area?

    [*]Who has it? (business name)

[*]Where are they located? (City, cross streets)

    [*]What is the cost?

    [*]What grade/octane?

[*]When was the last time you confirmed that they still have it?

    [*]What is their phone number?

I've read a lot on this and other forums that "Well, a friend told me that Joes gas station has it in the next town over"

I'm just trying to nail it down to find out the actual facts.

I'm wondering with the new regulations about ethanol requirements if it is still even legal for a station to sell non ethanol fuel ... even "Off Road Use Only" gasoline??

If you have an answer to this question please post a link or quote a source that can shed light on this in a factual way.

Thanks... we as sledders can use the information !!

I get my non-ethanol 92 octane fuel from St. Joe Oil in St Maries Idaho. I know they have it and have fueled up there several times in the past year and a half. The last time I was there the price was very comparable to other stations premium fuel. Here is a link to the website for St. Joe Oil:

I know they also have non-ethanol 92 octane in Sandpoint Idaho at the Co-Op County store just outside of Sandpoint in Ponderay, ID. The price was again real comparable to other station's premium fuel prices. Here is the website for the Sandpoint Co-Op:

everytime I see 92 oct it has ethanol. The Maverick in McCall had it the last time I was there. Both stations in Red Lodge MT have non-E 91 oct only.

There are several places in sothefn oregon that sell ethonol free 92 last I checked it was about 30 cents more than the ethanol crap. It is also legal to run the ethanol free in your car. So there are more and more stations starting to carry it

Please help me to keep this on point...

If you have a location and info on it post it up here.

Wardy (and others) please provide Specific locations and related information.

Thanks.

Snowpro911... when was the last time you were there?

I filled up at the co-op plenty while I was there visiting Timbersled... Nice supply house!! But that was last season.

A main point would be to post how recently you have confirmed this info by talking to the fuel manager at that location.

I'm not doubting that...but... What is the official source for that info?

I was under the impression that in the last few months that ethanol fuel is a Federal requirement in all states... And that "Off Road Only" pumps have been prohibited as well.

I'm looking for concrete info to disprove or prove that outside of speculation and rumor.

In NW montana, The whitefish/columbia falls area has multiple places with 91 being ethanol free... posted signs.

I dont have the name, but there is a sinclair on the east side of c-falls, by highway 2 and hwy 206, it has the sign on the side of the road saying ethanol free 91. the alpine market sinclair in whitefish has it posted along with a few others in town.. all of these are recent as I have seen them within the last month or so grabbing fuel/snacks etc. seems to be a lot more in this corner of the state then anywhere else.

Ski-Dooin it...

Thank you for that!!

Could you take a moment this week and stop in to ask them if this is still the case? And that there are no other oxygenate additives in the fuel?

Thanks in advance.

Maybe someone who is more in the know can chime in as to why some places have it and some don't.

I really don't want to get into politics in this thread either... just a good Information resource for Gasoline supply.

Thanks.

When I stop in the one place for snacks I will try to get some info, the one has a sign on the counter saying they have it for people with high performance toys that need real gas..

Mountainhorse,

I fueled my jet ski's up in St Maries earlier this month, so I know they still have it there and available. I have talked to the people who work there and the reason they get the fuel there is because of the loggers in the area. So many of them were having issues running the ethanol fuel in their chain saws. And I believe a fair amount of the people who work there snowmobile, so it benefits many of the people in the community and surrounding areas.

I was up at Timbersled a couple weeks ago and stopped by the Co-op just to make sure they still have it, so I can say that both of the places I mentioned I know still have it available.

Anyone know if there is any place in McCall that has ethanol free fuel? I have heard the Maverick does or did, can anyone confirm that?

Thanks -

When ethanol came on the scene, I would try as hard to go out of my way to get it as you guys are to avoid it.

Been using it for over 15 years in everything from lawnmowers to vehicles & toys.

No problems.

What is the reason you guys are avoiding it?

In CO it isn't "common", but it's not that hard to find either.

There's a thread in the CO forum that shows locations of non eth gas around Denver & the mountains. I get mine from a shell station at exit 240 in Idaho Springs, it only costs about 5-8 cents extra compared to ethanol 91. (I don't know of anywhere that carries anything but 91 in non ethanol)

I've never seen anything that says that you can't run it in your car, in fact I know that he has customers who fill up multiple cans so they can refill at home, they probably don't realize there's likely a station closer to them that has it also.

I don't know what's going on with snowest now, but older pages in the CO forum don't seem to exist anymore, so I can't look for that thread. WTF?? OK search function still works, I just can't scroll through pages like normal.

Backcountryislife...

Thank you for the info ad Co link...

That thread is old, last post December of last year... Many changes since then... It would be good to have that one updated by those that made the posts to confirm that it is/will-be availble currently at the locations noted.

If you can take a moment to post up the contact information and when was the last time that you confirmed that they still have it available

Can you also ask if there is any plans by the business to stop selling the non-ethanol fuel?

I want to keep this thread from becoming too vague and general.

I clicked on your link above and it scrolled fine for me. 2 pages.
If you are continuing to have problems... feel free to PM me and I'll try my best to help you.

Good Question for people to know about Mafesto:

All you will need to do is Google "ethanol gas problems" and you will have enough reading for a full day if you choose on this subject.

BUT....

Please lets not side track this thread on the "evils or merits of ethanol"... If you want to discuss that issue, please start a new thread on the topic.

I think sp911 hit the nail on the head. I'm out in the midwest and two local stations in the last couple years dropped 91/92 octane in favor of diesel. When I asked them why they dropped the hi-octane stuff they both said they just didn't sell enough to make it worthwhile. Only buyers were motorcycles, jet skis and snowmobiles. Not enough buyers and even those had small tanks!

Honestly this is a great idea but don't you think it is better suited for regional forums? I know Colorado has one of these threads. I personally don't want to sift through 20 or so other states to find where I can get fuel.

In south dakota we can get non ethanol fuel at every gas station. Most carry Non ethanol 87 and 91 then ethanol 89 and E85....some stations also have E20 E30+ blends, but non ethanol fuel is just as easy to find as ethanol fuel.

Okay this was all the last time I checked but it wasn't that long ago

Twin Falls, ID Jerome, ID
ALL the "TWIN STOP" Cheverons do not carry ethanol blended gasoline

And In McCall if I recall correctly "Jims Grocery" just south of pancake house is the last place to carry unblended Gasoline
