non-ethanol in salt lake?

Anyone know anywhere in salt lake selling non-ethanol at the pump? 91ish octane? The ProStop in riverton used to have it, but a friend of mine went out the to buy it yesterday and they didn't have it any more.

Yes it is 88 octane. All the places I know of around here that carry ethanol free it is 88 octane. (I only know about Lehi, Orem, Heber and I believe Kamas).

I think your right on the 88. Only place I've found 91 non-ethanol is wyoming

Anyone know of anyone doing race gas at the pump?

Download the app called "Pure Gas" and it will list most of the stations that carry non-ethanol. Unfortunately they are few and far between in Utah and it's getting worse.

The Pro-Stop has "Out of Order" bags on the pump. I'm hoping to stop by and talk to someone in the know there and see if it's only temporary. It was supposedly 91 octane but they also ripped people off as the price never changed from $3.99/gal...even with the lower prices now.

Pro Stop will be selling 91 non eth as soon as they get a part in. Just temporary thankfully

The refineries around here only make 88 non-ethanol. Ethanol has a higher octane rating, and they blend it with the 88 non-ethanol to raise the octance to 91 ethanol blend premium. If the station you are buying from says their non-ethanol is 91 they are either blending it with some race gas or they are lying. They can't buy 91 non-ethanol directly from the refinery.

This is correct and likely the reason that the price is $4/gal at Pro Stop. They are probably trucking it in from another state. Utah is one of the hardest states in the West to find 91 non-ethanol fuel for sure. You can mix your own and save $0.50/gal minimum if you live close to one of the stations that provide 110 octane gas. Below is a link to an Octane Calculator chart. Essentially to make 5 gallons of 91 octane in your jug you'd mix 0.7 gallons of 110 with 4.3 gallons of 88. Be careful not to over-octane. Octane is the ability to resist detonation and you only need enough octane to prevent detonation. Anything above that has no added benefit and definitely does not create more horsepower. Be safe out there this weekend!

Correct, I've talked with Darin at Overland trucking, that owns the prostop in riverton. He says he has sources to buy it in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska. He says the last load came from Colorado.

I sure hope it's temporary. For now I have bought some VP110 from Thomas Petroleum up in NSL and I'm just mixing on a 6:1 ratio with the ethanol free 88. What a pain compared to just stopping at the prostop in riverton on the way home from work.

I live a few blocks from the Riverton ProStop. The pump was broken last week and now it's fixed. I just bought Ethonol Free 91 octane a few days ago. $4.00/gallon - it's been the same price for the last year+.

unless you have high compression heads or turbo, the 88 non eth is just fine.
Heck I even ran couple tanks of 88 non eth in my turbo last year at 7lbs boost.z

On my 2016 with SLP stage 3 (high compression heads) i am just running the 91 eth. Most test will show the 91 ethonal amount to be under 3%. Didnt harry smith do some sample testing a while back?

Ha ha!! That's great that it is fixed now that I still have 8 gallons of VP110 sitting in my shed. Isn't that just Murphy's law?

All the science I've ever been taught about gasoline tells me that Phatty is correct that we could run 88 just fine at our elevation - especially at the higher riding elevations. And yet, I just can't bring myself to actually take that risk. Where the manuals for the machines don't give an exception for elevation, I can't bring myself to try with a machine on warranty.

With the advanced DET sensors these things have though, I should probably give it a whirl, and worst case scenario is that I go into limp mode for a day and learn my lesson.

Yeah!

This.^^^^

We have been running strictly 88 non ethanol in all our rentals and personal machines for years. 600's, 800's, etecs, cleanfires, etc. No issues. No det's. If I had easy access to 91 I'd use it. If 88 is easier to get there is no hesitation.

91 Octane Ethanol-Free Fuel

I just bought 20 gallons of 91 Octane Ethanol-Free Fuel from the Pro-Stop in Riverton on 12600 South. Lets support this station so they will keep it in stock. Use them for all your fuel needs :)

I'm all for supporting Pro Stop but it would be a bit easier if they weren't out to rape us. It's $80 for 20 gallons. It's not costing them $1.80/imported gallon to bring it from Vegas or we would all start a fuel transport business.

I bought 20 gallons of 91 non-ethanol in Idaho on Tuesday for $45 ($2.25/gal) and 35 gallons in Montana today for $2.33/gal.

If you want to run 91 vs. 88 and are near NSL, don't waste your time driving to Riverton. Support Thomas Petro and blend 20 gallons of your own for around $55. Also keep in mind the grocery store in Kamas has 88 non-eth. Let's support these businesses as well. Just my $.02.

Another alternative and what I do is buy 91 at your favored gas station and treat with some ethanol treatment. I prefer the Marine version of Sta-Bil.
