I was searching some websites today looking at quads and found that all U.S. dealers had to pull there 50cc quads and dirt bikes. Apparently the 50cc rigs are considered "toys" and since all of these are made overseas they fall under the law where they can only contain so much lead in the product or it is considered harmful to children. Come on now, it is not like my 4 year old is going to eat his Suzuki 50! What a bunch os B.S! Common sences never seemes to be a factor anymore. These web sites, Suzuki, Polaris, Kawasaki, all explain the situation. Here is what Suzuki posted on their site.....
The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act was created in response to issues with toys containing unhealthful levels of lead content or lead paint that could harm children if ingested. Though admirable in its efforts to guard child safety, the law extends to many products that children would not put in their mouths or otherwise ingest. Our youth model off-road motorcycles and ATVs currently fall into this category. Beginning February 10, 2009, it became illegal for Suzuki dealers to retail youth model ATVs and motorcycles, as well as associated parts and accessories.
American Suzuki regrets that our dealers cannot sell affected products after February 10. Industry associations are working to obtain clarification of the Act and the approval of regulations that would permit us to resume selling our youth models. We urge you to address any concerns about this law to your congressional representatives. Visit www.house.gov and www.senate.gov to communicate with elected officials in Washington DC.
