Nowcast as of 6:51 PM PST on January 11, 2011

The main part of the weather system is now moving inland and valley rain and mountain snow will spread from west to east across interior northern California through midnight. Most of the precipitation will occur north of Interstate 80. Weather instrumentation near Chico reports a snow level just below 3000 feet...and that area of precipitation will be moving across the northeast foothills...and western Plumas and Sierra counties this evening. Cold air remains trapped in the valleys and basins of Shasta County where snow levels may be near 2000 feet. Rain and mountain snow will be ending over the coastal range around 9 or 10 PM. The rain and mountain snow will be lighter and much more hit-and-miss...over areas south of Highway 50.

How depressing... We hit Lakes Basin today and while the snow was great, it's melting fast and rocks are showing again. Got so hot riding we ended up stripping down to t-shirts and were still dying of heat... If we don't get another good storm soon, this may very well be one of our last rides of the season and it's only January!:frown:

I wish I could say something nice .... at least the average time for this type of weather is 3 weeks (per the DWEEB) We are into the second week !!!!

ARGH !!!

Nothing, any time soon. I'm sure it will end up snowing @ the end of the month since I'll be heading to Orange County / San Diego for 5 days. Although I shouldn't complain to much I have a ton of little things I need to do to the ski-doo, and the arctic cat has the top end apart. This window has given me some time to get my act together and get all the tinkering done.

What the hell is going on around here? Wheres the update im ready for some good news!! Its like summertime in tahoe but 50 degrees too cold. this sucks. the snow is pure ice. even at 3pm in the sun. uggghh

Maybe a small storm in a week or two but nothing major on the horizon.

High pressure system stuck around San Francisco causing the jet stream cold air to miss California and shoot down to TEXAS from Idaho ... causing anymoisture to go there and pick up more from the Gulf of Mexico to the North East States.

Weather prediction is accurate out 2 weeks and nothing major for 10 days.

Maybe around Valentines Day.
