No Idaho tags = $100 per sled

Rode up Beaver creek with the fam yesterday. I notice a forest service guy watching us on the trail. Then we pass another one kind of hidden back in the trees. Up the trail another mile and they had a rode block, cones and the whole works. 12 to 15 forest service guys and a couple sleds that said law enforcement on them. Thes guys were all business and needed some people skills training. They ended up stopping us two more times after that. Then the father inlaw erupted and told them "look I know your just doing your job but this is the third time you've stopped me and your ruining my day, this is harassment now leave me the f**k alone". Yeah it was my bad for not getting the tags, but 100$ is a little over the top to me, plus getting stopped 3 times. CYA!

Yeah, that sucks.:( But if I have a broken taillight, I expect to get pulled over until it gets fixed and I expect to get a ticket. If I am speeding I expect to get pulled over and get a ticket. I am pleasantly pleased if they choose to just warn me, but I don't expect it. $100 doesn't really seem unreasonable either. It seems on par with other similar tickets. I'm not trying to stir anything, just mentioning if I were in you're position and taking the chance of not getting caught, I would expect the worse if I did get caught. Just my .02 cents.

Perhaps your anger should be directed to our State Legislature: we used to have agreements with many surrounding states that allowed us to ride on Utah tags.. just like you can drive your car in another state… But for the few bucks they collect for out of state riders they forced the surrounding states like Idaho to do the same..

I’m sure the program isn’t cost effective; I’m sure the loss of other revenue and tax dollars isn’t offset by what they collect each year in registration and fines.

This is the list of states that have reciprocity with Utah. If your state isn't on the list then you need an out of state sticker. Note that none of the surrounding states has an agreement with Utah.

King. I get your point. I don't mind the ticket as much as attitude. My friend last year took our sleds up Gardsmans and when he got back to the trailer(this was christmas eve by the way) The cop said he was giving him a ticket because one of the sleds was unregistered(which was true). Then the sheriff goes off on him about not having the trailer registered and from what he told me this guy rips him a new one right infront of his dauter(again it's christmas eve). Being new the to the sport I pulled up the info that said trailers under 1500lbs(my trailer is 750lbs) need no registration so this sheriff was harassing for the sake of harassing. Now thats the part that is BS. Personally I have had no issues, but I wish I would have been there on this one.

Hey it was my bad I didn't get Idaho tags and I'm taking my medicine. But you only need to stop me 1 time, not 3, and they don't have to be a prick each time. These guys must have been with the U.S. forest service because I need to send my fines to North Carolina within 30 days or they will go ahead and set me up a court date.

Been there done that. Got hit with 3 of my sleds in one day $75.00 each. And it was the first year the law went into effect.

Sucks the big one.

No sympathy here for the bust or the fine. But it sounds like you are fine with that. There is no eexcuse for the way in which you were treated I agree.Sounds like they were out there to flex their muscle and put on a show and stroke their ego's. Sorry to hear about your ordeal. We have one US Forest Service ranger here that treats one of our areas as his own personal retreat and strongly feels that no one should ride up there. He can make life a real pia for anyone he finds up there on a sled. He's a real piece of work for sure.

One of the first things you learn as a rookie is you either give people an @ss chewing or a ticket, not both. Hopefully that's still being taught.
