No fix for air intake on 09 XP?

From the pictures of the 09 Summit models I've seen, there are no changes to the air intake from last year. I guess BRP doesn't care that the air intakes get clogged causing the machines to bog when riding in deep powder?

I thought this was a major issue, at least it was for me, or am I the only one that rides deep powder?

go to your local doo dealer and look at the intake, the 08's just had a slp like screen that was ressed in. the 09's has a layer of foam with outerwares over it, just like the REV.

Thought the 09's had extra spring loaded relief on airbox inside engine compartment. 08 just has one small & 09 has 2 or 1 larger one to make up air flow if outer intake screen clogged with snow

can anyone confirm this?

Looked at a friends 09 two days ago and it has one bypass valve inside of intake, not sure about any size change. The prefilter upgrade should work good as it is convex in shape and should repell snow well. I'm trying to deside if I should purchase the SLP intake mod kit or upgrade to 09 oem intake. Anyone got any suggestions??

we found a simple fix for the 08 intake getting plugged in deep snow conditions and causing the motor to bog down .

what is happening is the air intake is a vaccum and th top as you look at it and the front side of the intake have a gap that is drawing hot under hood air into the intake . this heats the fine screen enough to cause snow to stick to the screen .
what we did was went down to the hardware store and bought some self adesive baked foam strip 3/4 inch thick and put a strip on this area on the air box intake . when you take the v shaped nose piece off you can see a tray area that is about one inch wide and 1/4 inch deep on the top rail of the air box . affix the weather strip to this spot and as well down the front of it about 3 inches . this seals the under hood air that the out let is sucking in and heating the screen .

thsi worked well for us here in the deep stuff . we tried a variety of different things but thsi was the most effective fix by far and was all of about a 2 dollar fix .

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that foam strip on my 08. I was out of town earlier this week, and stopped into the Doo dealer in Grand Junction and saw the new upgrade on the showroom floor, and it looks as if that will cure the problem.

The SLP kit will not be available until October at the earliest is what I was told today. SLP's kit is right at $70, now the foam and screen filter from Ski Doo is $80.48. ($18.49 for the foam and $61.99 for the screen filter to cover the foam.) Six of one and half a dozen for the other. I have one of SLP's kits on order, but the more I think about it I'm probably just going to cancel the order and look at other options. Not so sure that I want to cut up the console. I've already put flow rites in the top of the airbox and that helped alot. I've also reduced the spring pressure and lubed the spring on the valve thats suppose to open when the air intake gets plugged. Going to look at what turboal did also.

Thanks for the tip turboal. I need to try this on my 08 also. Any way you or Zoomie could post a picture of what you have done? Thanks!

i havent seen the 09's yet...but i think that the intake is still a poor design(area) and will still collect snow and reduce air intake in the deep pow! in our experience..even when snow wasnt melting on the screen..we still were constantly wiping snow off it! imo..that relief valve does squat! even if that valve worked properly..theres not enough air flow through there to feed the 800!

to me, i think the best would be to have multiple air intakes!

i wish the engineers would call me so i can educate them:rolleyes:
