Nitro mods?

I would like to know also

to lighten up a bit
I will switch out battery
build a under tunnel exhaust (remove plastic behind seat)
remove idlers, install scratchers
maybe a 2 wheel rear kit
ETC ?

Powerwise the most you can realistically expect to see is right around 155hp. To do this you will need a new exhaust complete with a new header. Excel makes the best system IMO. If you want to do your own under tunnel buy a an Excel header from a Vector not the Nytro as it exits straight back. The header and exhaust alone will get you in the 146 - 148 range. An Rb3 controller should net another 7 or 8 with the header and put you around 155 or so. Any more than that and you'll need to go into the motor.

Weight wise:
1. First thing that needs to go on an 08/09 is the skid. Period. No saving it, its a heavy POS.
2. Battery Ytz7s is what I use.
3. Tunnel or at least drop brackets which if you go with a Timbersled skid it will come with.
4. Seat plastic and heat shield etc is if I remember about 3-4 lbs.
5. There's about 6 to be had on the front suspension, more if you ditch the swaybar.

There's pics of my exhaust in this thread

and pics of my skid and tunnel. All the mods I did dropped about 70lbs.Do some searching on here and on TY. Its all been done and posted before.

I'm pretty sure they used to come with them but I could be wrong. I thought the drop brackets were part of the 38 lb weight loss.

motor mods without turbo, you gotta get more air/fuel in, and more exhaust out to make HP. ditch the air box and get a k&n filter kit and pcIII power commander, cr10ek plugs, excell vector header and some sort of muffler (whatever you prefer), or excell fx nytro header with stock can (+5 claim hp from website), or excell fx nytro full system (not sure on the hp and it is above tunnel only at this time). you can switch to a lighter performance type engine oil like the gibbs racing oil ulmer sells for a little help.

next step would be head porting, and cams, higher comp pistons, ect...
then the big bux come in and you might as well just put a good low boost kit like the northwest/ulmer turbo set up.

at first the small stuff doesnt seem like it will do much, a hp here, 2-3 there, throttle response ect... but when you do several they all add up to a nice gain. not huge but, better than stock. ski

I have the excell vector header with a Leo Vince Ti. exhaust from a GSXR 1000 and my 08 runs like a raped ape. I might do the plugs and K&N kit but I'm still leary of pod filters on this thing.

do you have any other motor mods? programer etc..
what are you running for clutching & alt.
track 15" wide X 153? 156?

I did the pods thing on my RX1 before I had it turboed and they are a PITA in the mountains. They clog up constantly in deep snow. I'm sticking with the airbox until I turbo it.

I have a skinz exhaust and a hartman clutch kit that really woke the sled up. Not sure it has the power of my brothers xp but has to be close. I am thinking about adding a Excell/Ulmer undertunnel exhaust to mine should put me in the mid 140's? Then add some nitrous to it!!!!! I want a turbo or a super but it just isn't in the cards so this will probably be the way i go for this year.

Have you talked to Dave about the RB3 on a non-turbo Nytro. I think I saw on TY that there are some maps for this, which mught be a good starting point. I believe a few of the flat land guys are running them or Power Commanders.

I am really thinking about doing this. Just wondering if you had more information on it now.

What is the OD of the vector header? I am doing my under tunnel exhaust now and my Nytro Excell header is 1-7/8" OD where I will have to cut it off. I may need a 2" glasspack.

Thanks!

I talked to Dave about it one time last year while we were just shooting the $hit and if I remember right I think he said he was getting an additional 9 horse fully stock sled, so I'm guessing 155 is doable with the other mods. I think with a head porting job and an RB3 a guy would see in the 165 range.

I thought you already had the full Excel system why the switch?

I was think about putting a wedge type tunnel bag behind the seat for storage and move some of the weight like the tool kit and stuff in my handle bar bag further back. I'd like to have a better place to put water, lunch, gloves etc. so my avy pack isn't so heavy. Plus the glass pack sounds mean.

maybe u can get 15 hp....change gearing and clutching a bit but really just save up and get a low boost kit....new mcx 180 hp 4500.00 or so cheap hp for sure...and thats 180 at sea level or 10000 ft...not 155 at sealevel and 110 at 10000 feet....IMHO
