Next summer project Cr500

So I have been kicking around adding a wet nitrous kit on the cr500... I run an egt... I know carbed sleds have ran this successfully... Am i missing something on the single cylinder... Is it too much for the crank bearing? I also run a smartcarb but the nitrous should have its own jet and fuel pump .... Thoughts ?

Also interested in the idea. I've got a stock 500 with smartcarb as well. Putting a tunnel cooler on this summer to help with spring riding overtemp issue. Seems like the nitros would be a better idea then putting a turbo on a 4stroke as far as longevity goes. Breaking major things on the cr is proving to be an ever worsening ordeal when it comes to finding replacement oem parts. That would be my only worry.

I have had good luck with mine.. I have 150 hard only snow hours and lives between 5 and 8 grand most of the time ... Rings every 50 hours and I am still on my original forged piston.. It will be replaced next time around ... The tunnel cooler and shut off valve for carb heat made the smarty run like a top... That being said I am looking for just enough to pull a gear for the chute climbing or an eject button;) it looks pretty simple ... My local shop has not had an issue sourcing parts. We will see..

My other thought is if you ride at high altitude is it really not that much harder on components since you are a little over stock HP.. Say at 10 thousand feet

So I had a talk with Bossnoss today which seems like the best option for a wet system on the cr500... They said they have been running them in the past... He recommended a 20 shot and you tap it in on the intake... It does not need a battery which is a big plus.... Anyone run their systems recently before?

if you get near 100 horse you need more piston to cylinder clearance. cost me one wossner to find that out.

I don't know if I am at 9000 to 1000 I would be getting close....I think it would put me back at around 70 to 80... Total guess though...

My experience with BossNoss was a total horror show. I spent an entire season and too many hours trying to get it working right on a sled. Boss couldn't figure it out and just kept trying small changes while I blew through tank after tank of Nos trying to debug it. Maybe they have improved their customer service and product but it was enough to turn me off that company for ever.

Meaning you were not getting the power to the engine? and shooting nitrous in? Fuel injected or Carbed?

machined the piston down. .002 if i recall right. basically just set the clearance up more to what a sled runs, not a bike.

giving away all my secrets here... haha. All these bike guys will tell you they have the 500's figured out. things are a little different when you pin a track on and actually load the motor up for more than 3 seconds.

boondocker nitrous works fine. no issues. just need to set it up correct. if your bottle is cold, just run a bigger jet. never tried the boss stuff.
