A quick word of thanks for the couple that gave me some assistance today. (They were form Alpine Meadows, and very gracious in giving me a hand. He mentioned he was a regular on this site). This has been only my forth time out on a snowmobile, and just still learning the ropes. I’m still in full time ‘Barney Mode’.
How my little mishap occurred,
I just made the traverse from the Mt. Rose flats, up to the access road. Turning left at the top, I started to scan the area below. I was looking for a 2-way radio that I lost. Leaning over and looking down the hill, ‘Sight Fixation’ hit me. A slow motion roll was initiated, and the fun began. My MTX manage to completely roll itself upside down (with myself directly below it), welcome to backcountry sledding. I managed to sick it almost completely upside down, with the skis pointed downhill. Of course, this was right in front of everybody looking up from the snow play area. I really felt like a fool, but I guess that’s part of leaning this sport.
I was up there for about 10 minute before help arrived. I’m not the type of person whom asks for help, but rather the one whom gives it. This time, I felt it was best to swallow my pride, and accept their help. They explained how best to resolve the situation, and additionally gave me words of encouragement.
After righting the beast and helping me collecting all my crash and burn paraphernalia, they were off.
Again, a sincere thanks you for your assistance and encouragement.
I hope to return the favor
