Newbie, with an old bike, question

I have ridden dirt bikes most of my life, again most of it in the desert. But I was transferred to Utah recently and saw snow bikes in the mountains last winter. I GOTTA Have one. I currently have 2 bikes one is a 2006 RMZ450 and the other is a 1990 KX500. I like the RMZ more for trails and desert riding. So the KX just sits most of the time, other than when I want to pull it out and scare the neighbors with hot laps around the block. I would like to make the KX my full time Snow Bike, Its a kick-*** hill climber and has endless power even at high altitude. Problem is, most companies make kits for 1996 and newer KX500's.

Is this a simple problem of calling the individual companies and finding a kit (for another bike) that matches my dimensions/specs of the subframe and swing arm? Or is there more to it than that?

I would like to exhaust the possibilities of make the KX a snow bike before I break down and just convert the RMZ back and forth every season.

Thanks for your help on this...in advance.

Call up any reputable shop and they will do it if they want your business. Yeti guys measured up my 500AF no problems.

the kx makes a good bike, just need to do a few tweaks and you will be happy

This is what I was told...

Since KX500s were the same from 88' and up..Timbersled makes a fit kit for a 2000, but it works with older years (because it's really the same).

I looked into it because I have a KX500 now, and I was debating on whether to keep it stock of make it an AF....AF it is for me!

Thanks guys, I kind of figured as much. I thought the years of KX were basically the same, but even the smallest changes can cause premature failure of moving parts, etc. Good to know I can buy a kit now and make the mods to my KX to run in the cold and high altitude.
