Newbie driver question

I'm new to this awsome sport of snowmobileing, I bought a 2003 900 1M 151" Black and Green sled last winter and love her...I'm currently getting her ready to meet LaNina head on this winter and have a question on my Drivers. The sled is in desperate need of a new track and I have heard nothing but great things about the powerclaw and would like to put a 153" powerclaw on her. I come to find out that the track is not made with my 2.56 pitch only a 3.0 pitch is offered. After checking with the dealer at the cost of the upgrade to the 3.0 pitch it was shocking what they want for the axel and drivers, then on top of the price of the track I would have to take out a 2nd mortgage...Any recomendations on what year/brand of cats I should be looking for that people are parting out that would have the correct 3.0 pitch axel and drivers? Any other recomendations? Thanks

What I Did

Hey Newbie, may I make a suggestion, I bought a new 2003 9001M with a 151 and installed a 159x16x159 Challenger Extreme, moved the stock suppension back 2 inches with drop brackets, used stock tunnel with now problems and it worked awesome and would be alot cheaper than changing drivers MADDOGWFO

Watch the swaps. A driver set out of any King Cat will work fine. These are extros so you may have to do a little rail tip trimming. Also a month or two ago Racinstation on here had some non-extro 3 pitch drivers and axles that Cat had made specifically to update 1ms to the A20. He was selling for $75 plus shipping. Might be the way to go. Linkee: http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=221941

Also look for a used track in the swaps. I bought used 153 PC and King Cat extros for my 1m for less than $700 shipped to the door. Still not cheap but some savings over new.

you can go 16 wide but you will either have to run sled junkie drop brackets or, Put 7 inch wheels on the top idler arm so the track clears the stock drop brackets. Also, Buy you a set of after market 3.0 extrovert drives and have a shop press yours off and the new ones on. I think I paid a total of 80 bucks for the new drivers and having them pressed.

I did the same thing your wanting to do, I converting my 04 1m 800 2.52 to a 3.0 162". Do some digging on the forums. I bought two driveshafts with drivers last year, both with exo's and were in good useable shape. $65 for one and $50 for the other, new take off 162" A20 for $185 shipped, set of 162" rails for $65, lots of good deals to be found if you take the time to look. Can't beat $300 for rails, track and drivers!

Decisions, Decisions

WOW, I got some decisions to ponder, good stuff here..Thanks everyone for chimming in. I just received my forward steering post kit so I'll be working on that :face-icon-small-hap while still web surfing for the track and drivers.

So is going with the 16" wide track really worth the extra $$$ in drop brackets and work?
After all it's only an extra 1/2" on each side of the track, but I'll go that direction if so....Thanks again

Not much Work

MADDOGWFO here again, the 16 wide was no issue installing and drop brackets are easy also, what I liked about my setup was climbing and transfering weight, in a steep climb my skis are only a foot to two foot off the snow, a controlable climb, not trying to go over backwords, if you are going with the forward mounting steering post here is my setup I installed with the KINGCAT I bought late last year with the Key and Choke Steup along with the stock tack MADDOGWFO

The beautiful thing about the 1M sleds is they have been around a while now, there are lots of used parts out there now. Find used drivers from a kingcat, they will give you the 3.0 pitch you need for a powerclaw. A big wheel kit should take up the slack from going 153 from 151.

2 steps forward 3 steps back

Well I pulled the trigger and purchased a 153" claw yesterday :face-icon-small-hap it hurt the pocket book but I like hot dogs and Mac and cheese for 3 meals a day, and it's only for a couple weeks ...I was working on the sled last night doing my steering post forward Mod and I had taken the reeds out to inspect and clean, I look down and see my throttle cable at the injection pump was frayed and almost ready to break. WOW what a good catch on my part but that just put me back 3 steps as the new cable is $60, that $$$ was going to go towards the 3.0 drivers I need :face-icon-small-fro...I also got a chime in about going to the 11M reeds and should look into doing that Mod as she's all apart now but again more $$$. I have read about guy's taking the oil injection systems out of their sleds and mixing their own gas but not sure If I want to pile more onto my already overwhelming pile...I'm starting to stress, snow coming fast, sled tore apart and wallet empty...God I love this sport.

Getting closer

Well the big brown truck showed up yesterday bearing gifts for me and my sled...

153" powerclaw track
8 tooth 3.0 pitch drivers
Antistab wheel kit

Still in route, Boss seat

I'm so close to putting her back together I can just taste the pow now...
