On a whim I bought a used 07 phazer last month. I wanted something to get me around and replace a 95 2 stroke. Well, after a month of learning to ride it, I think it's time for this "new" rider to tweak a few things. My thoughts is to make some improvements without spending to much, because next year the wife will ride this and I will get a Nytro, And I would like her to like this sled. I read all 45 pages of threads and there are some good ideas to solve my "pet peeves."
1. Cover the hole in the tunnel under seat, this will save icing in the tunnel and therefore weight.
2. Drill some holes in the running boards to keep ice building up under my feet.
Also I would like to resolve other problems that the threads did not refer to -
1. Nose diving in powder, if I let off the gas, she dives to the right, sometimes enough to lay on the side. I have Simmons flex skies (6 x 41ish) with stock shocks. The shocks are one click from being the stiffest, I might try that new setting. With these Simmons skis, I don't have the ability to widen the stance, it is roughly 38 inches from inside to inside of the skis. Also my limiter strap seems to be loose, but the only way to tighten this is to undo the bolts and tighten it up a notch, which I have one more notch to go. I should mention I have no darting on the trails and in fact have trouble turning this thing around in the parking lot.
Are there any other ideas?
2. The rear Suspension bottoms outs, I have the "H" set on the rear spring and the Preload one click from being the stiffest. I have heard that one could manufacture a nylon block to rest against the spring, Something like you would see on a 2 person sled. This puts pressure on the spring and therefore stiffens it.
Has any one tried this?
3. I not sure if this a 4 stoke characteristic or if my v-belt is to tight, or I need to add rivets to the weights on the clutch, but compared to a 2 stroke there is no "lag" when I give it gas. It just pickup and go, like a 4-wheeler, which is nice but I understand this decrease my low end power something I probably need when climbing.
Any thoughts?
Thanks a million in getting this new rider an edge up on fine tuning his/soon to be hers sled.
