more rules for more money. Basically from my understanding it will make it illegal for companies to install window tint of illegal shades.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The state Senate has passed a bill outlawing the installation of illegal window tinting on cars and trucks.

Sen. Hollis French says it's already illegal to drive with tint that blocks more than 30% of light transmission on the driver and front passenger side windows.

Back seat and rear window tinting can block no more than 60% of transmitted light.

The penalty for installing illegal tint would be a citation, same as a driving violation.

French, an Anchorage Democrat, says tinted windows can block a driver's view.

He says the bill was requested by a neighborhood association concerned about drug dealers and people casing homes.

French says Anchorage police gave more than 1,200 citations for illegal tint in 2006. The measure now moves to the House.

Yea i just don't see how this is going to prevent drug dealings, this is as stupid as the assault weapons ban. Now Hilary Clinton is trying to push the assault weapon ban back in place because of the conflicts with Mexico. All this on top of Hatchers Pass issues.

Thats easy, instead of making it illegal have it manditory to roll down windows when pulled over, I always roll my windows down so the officer can see inside.....

The cops all have dark tints in there back windows.. What about the people driving box vans and HHRs!!! They have no back window, whats so different about that than driving with dark tints on your back window?? Stupid politics.. They want to enforce something minute to the important issues just for state revenue. Just because you have tints you arent "drug dealin" lol, these people will say anything too get paid. O well, i dont even have tints. We may as well start kissing our muscle and sprots cars goodbuy the way things are going, probably make some 300hp limit.. pshh

That's like Obama saying he won't raise taxes on anyone making less than 250,000 a year. He gave the average person a $15.00 per month tax break and turned around and raised the tobacco tax 300%. Who are the primary tobacco users you make ask? 80% of them make less than 250,000 per year.

and im sure cx skiers think it would be a great idea to shut down hatchers to motorized vehicles too. but it's not a great idea at all. There is better solutions then making things illegal, rather than banning it. I dont think too many officers have been shot from vehicles with tint in Alaska either, I could be wrong though. I do understand that it is a safety issue for officers but French isnt concerned with that. I have emailed a few representatives about this issue.

They could probably use it to get the people in the car to lower the windows if necessary...
I would bet most citizens who are pulled over for speeding probably don't want to cause any trouble. If it seems like a high risk situation, like a "stolen" car or any other weird thing, they can always have the driver get out of the car....JMO

I wonder if anybody WITHOUT tint has ever tried to hide a gun from the cops. Im sure probably not, since ONLY people with dark tint are criminals with bad intentions. I bet most people with dark tint are child molesters and serial killers too. They probably rape people all the time and deal drugs as well. EVERYBODY with dark tint is a CRIMINAL.........

Sorry you feel that way. I do see a few riders with tinted windows and I also enjoy tinted windows on those long sunny drives to my favorite areas. But i wouldnt expect more from you.

Just get a medical waiver, I have "sensitive eyes" due to my medication. LOL

Of all the things we should be worrying about.... like energy policy, state budget, ect ect I doubt tint is a "crisis" that needs to be dealt with.

just make sure you have the waiver in the truck with you. had a trooper give a tint ticket to a friend who didn't have his waiver with him and explained that. had to go to court cause the officer said he would dismiss if he brought it in. when he showed up in court the JUDGE wouldn't let the ticket go. at least the officer stood by his word and tore up his own ticket. so if you are truck hopping might want to keep that in your wallet.
