New track time, which one?

I have an 07 RMK 600 155", the sled now has 6300 miles on it, I am missing about 6-8 lugs, and where one of them was, the track is delaminating, and the grouser bar is showing. So, I am going to need a new track for next year, our season here in the midwest is over, and I need to start saving. I would like to go with a 153 powder claw, but not sure of what all is involved with that, new drivers obviusoly, and the powder claw isn't the cheapest. If I could find a good price on a 5.1 I am willing to go that route too. Hell, the original track lasted this long right? Most of my riding is in the U.P. of Michigan, deep snow boondocking, but I do have to use the trails to get there, and I do riide it here at home when we have the snow. What is everyone's thoughts?

The 07 track was a series 5.0.... The 08-10 tracks are 5.1 series these had 19% more lug contact.
So the 5.1 is an improvement over the 5.0.

Also the camo extreme is a very good track and comes with the 2.86 pitch so no driver change required.

The camo extreme track is a 2.5 " lug and is a heavier track so if you go with one of those you will probably need to go with a little lighter primary clutch weights.

If you liked the OEM track and want to save some $$$, find a new take-off or slightly used 155'".

155 track

Not all 155 series 5.1 tracks are the same. Part # 5413622, which came on the 2009 and 2010 Dragon RMK 155 sleds are 49.5#, over 6# lighter than the 2007 and 2008 series 5.1 tracks. That is a huge reduction in rotating mass and is very noticeable, especially on a 600. Beware of anything else if someone is trying to sell you a used Polaris track.

I love my power claw 153 for deep snow boondocking, and for the trail. It was a night and day difference compared to the 5.1 155" I had. I am running 8-tooth Wahl 3.0" pitch drivers on a Fastrax shaft with no problems. The only other modifications were a anti stab kit, grinding a very minimal amount of material off the back of the rails, and cutting off every other mini nub on the track.:thumb:

Bossman is right about the OEM's. To add to his point, even in 09 the RMK's had the old heavier 2 ply track while the Dragons of the same year had the lighter 1 ply version. My boys have one of each, both boosted and both with identical gearing/clutching. When i ride them both in the BC snow (mostly powder so far with some pack) I swear the 1 ply Dragon track hooks up better. I can't speak for longevity yet as both are carryover low mile sleds. I would have to think the 2 ply RMK track would hold up better, but like the Bossman said, with the 600 plant I would think lighter is better.

When shopping take off tracks, ask the seller about the shocks on the sled the track came off of. If it had the coil over ryde FX shocks its the heavier RMK track. If it had the Walker Evans shocks it is the lighter Dragon track. Good luck. EW
