New Track Drivers

I have looked around and haven't found any definite answer on regular drivers. If you are switching to Avid anti-ratchet drivers, you will have to trim the rails back and SHOULD install an anti-stab kit as well. With trimming it will fit with a 2.5 inch track.

If I was going to switch out drivers anyways, I would go with the anti-ratchet drivers.

Edit: It seems 7 tooth is the only way to go with a 2.5 inch track unless you do a Drop and Roll.

They won't work with the 2.5 inch lug. I just put 7 tooth 2.86 pitch Avid drivers on mine and I have 3/4 inch clearance to the bulkhead. in the front. Using the smaller front sprockets effectively lowers your gearing. The only issue I have is that the track runs very close to the front suspension arm so I am installing larger rear carrier wheels and a set of carrier wheels in the front to keep the track from slapping against the suspension.

This might be helpful to you. Here are the Approximate diameters of the different drive sprockets.

Stock 9t 2.52 sprockets approx 7.05"

2.86 7t Approx 6.25"
2.86 8t Approx 7.125"

3.0 7t Approx 6.55"
3.0 8t Approx 7.50"

I don't think you could use more than a 2 inch paddle with the 8t 3.0 drivers unless you drop and roll your chaincase. Also keep in mind that you are raising the gearing on the sled slightly if you use the 8t 3.0 drivers.

thanks.
so i decided to go with the 7 tooth 3" pitch avid drivers. do i have to trim my rails like ghostwhite said to make these fit?

Yes, if you don't trim the rails your suspension will hit the anti-ratchet drivers. If you are getting them from Avid just tell them you need an anti-stab wheel kit too. He has the Wahl Bros kits for $90. Here is a photo of my rails with the anti-stab kit installed.

If you are running a center ported track you may need to modify the spacers on the anti-stab kit so that the wheels do not run in the holes in the track on the kit for two straps.

Here is another view of the Avid Drivers and anti-stab wheel kit. That is the two strap kit with the center wheels spaced 1.5 inches apart instead of the .5 inches that they come. I will be adding another strap and moving that out from between the wheels.

Robbie at Avid is was really helpful and can probably answer any other questions. He even installed the drivers for me, Just had to ship my shaft to him.

how much did you trim off your rails? thanks for the help

About 2 inches. I mounted the kit just in front of where the original crossbar is and cut the rails right in front of the shaft on the kit. I also cut a 45 degree notch on the bottom of the rails. I hear that most people put it in the where the stock cross shaft is. I was using the instructions from hi-perf and the stock holes are too high. I didn't want to risk catching the front of the hyfax so I drilled new holes.
