New top end install?

Anyone know if when installing new rings and pistons do you have to check/set the end gap on the new rings? Or are they factory set? Anyone know where to find the end gap spec's?

Working on 2007 M8

Thanks,

Jason

I'm still waiting for mine to show up, but I would never put a motor together without at least checking.

You are suposed to check but ive never had a set that needed adjusting in the 15 motors that ive done, Ill have to admit that i didnt check on the few that were rebuit on the hill but never had any issue. I was useing ac parts so i dont know how consistent aftermarket would be.

just put wiseco's new coated pistons in mine, the paper work they came with said to check the gap but didn't put any specs in, had to call wiseco and get the info from them. don't know if the gap is the same on all pistons, if you need it let me know have it written down at the shop. the gap was dead on out of the box...

I suggest you check the gap every time you do a top end. I always do, mainly because I have received parts in the past for various projects that were not manuafactured to spec, or the wrong part was included. Easy to check for the peace of mind. I've never had an issue with Wiseco though.

Ditto. Just slap them on there and put the jugs back on. Unless you are REALLY, REALLY unlucky the end gap will be correct right out of the box. Especially if you are using OEM Suzuki rings

If you do check it, the clearence is supposed to be .012" - .0196", per the AC service manual

Do you guys get the cylinders honed lightly also... just wondering :beer;

I would for sure hone the cylinders for correct ring seat and to knock the glaze off, but I think you will find the rings are good right out of the box.
