New to the Elko area....Looking for some good riding places here.

I've heard the Rubies are one of the best places to ride but I've got no idea where to start. I'm a seasoned rider and was able to talk my brother into picking up a sled this year, I'd really appreciate the info....I'm also interested in riding the Truckee area if anyone had any info for me as well.

Thanks,
Josh

Josh:

You need to get a hold of PowderCrew on this site. He and his riding pals have the Elko area wired, especially Lamoille Canyon. He does great video work. Also, lots of places to ride in the Truckee area and surrounding areas. www.westcoastsledders.com is a great site for Northern Calif and the Reno/Tahoe areas. And the sun shines down this way = Bluebird days.

Step 1: Drive up lamoille canyon road until you hit snow

Step 2: Do what comes naturally :D

Kid woo hit that right on the nose! Take a trip out there now before there is any snow to see what will be covered by all that snow. They put up barricades to keep vehicles from driving up too far when it starts to snow. I think that it was 6 miles from the end of the road. Not a huge area, but it gets steep. Gets crowded on the weekends. See Tim and Amanda at Thin Air for your parts. I may have more snow where I am at now, but I will sure miss the 15 minute drive to ride.

Done and Done lol....I'm going to make a run up there when I get back from Reno although we're starting to get dumped on right now as we speak....

DonBrown, do you ride here?

I live in Spring Creek about 15 minutes from the parking spot where we ride from. There is some great riding up there, but as mentioned, it can get crowded and pretty steep. I have been riding there a lot for the past 3 years and it's a blast. The rocks can be devastating in the early season so you need to go take a look at what it's like right now. There is also riding north of Elko by Wildhorse Reservoir in the Independence mountains and on the other side of the highway up towards Jarbidge. People think that the only riding here is in Lamoille, that's not true. Get a hold of me sometime and we can ride. I have a really good group of guys that I ride with. Always looking for new guys to ride with. Welcome to Elko!!!

Though it sounds that simple... BE WARNED! Lamoille Canyon will EAT A SLED UP!!!! There are probably 5+ "total outs" each season and a-arms by the dozens!

And keep in mind PowderCrew is probably one of the guys snaking up there between rocks on one foot of snow as soon as he can so he knows! :D

But yeah that terrain is rugged as shlt and definitely takes a good snowpack to fill everything in before it's fully game on.

Hey Nelson. Get ahold of me some time. I haven't meet you yet but I know your truck. I see it at maverick in the mornings. I have the 2010 dodge with BMF's novakanes Joe gill and I are opposite rotations so if he is working I'm off and always looking for someone to ride with. I usually hit the canyon three times every seven off. Mostly on weekdays. 397597zero

I ride mostly way south in Tulare County in the Giant Sequoias .

Make several runs to Mammoth BUT Silvertip has invited me a few time up to north of the 80.

I did... Kinda. Still work in elko 7 days, commute to Cali for my 7 days off. But I still pound the rubies! Just can't ever ride on weekends... Mon, Tues and/or wed I can rip it. I also haul the sled back and forth so I play on the sierras during my commute as well. I'll ride the sierra westside when I'm home in Cali. Confused?:face-icon-small-con

Another LibbyIte! I am from Libby as well, Welcome to our area Josh. Great riding, lots of rocks, and a bunch of smack talk. Not much more you can ask for except the 3 million dollars needed to not to back to work and ride all the time.
