ok so I bought a new to me 2012 800 155 pro and we run lots of trails around here in South Dakota. my question is does the $28 dollar fix keep it running cooler? I had a heck of a time keeping it cool unless riding real hard or in loose snow. the engine is completely stock except I did do an spi fix it kit on it just for insurance purposes.

now the other questions I can only seem to pull 7900 rpm. it has 10-62 weights in the clutch we run in the black hills which is 5500-7000 feet. the exhaust pipe has a couple dents in it from previous owner hitting rock and bumper bar slapping the pipe. could that possibly do it?

thanks for any input guys!!!

$28 fix helps but scratchers are the real answer when running trails.

Ice storm are some of the best i have used, they throw way more snow than the normal type and are reverse friendly.

When was the last time the clutches were balanced/cleaned/etc?

Replace both clutch springs and belt, clean clutches to start and see if the rpms come up any.

Also do a compression check, pull exhaust valves for a clean and visual inspection of pistons/rings in port.

I agree with BILTIT, scratchers are a must on trail.

I picked up a 2013 RMK Assault a couple weeks back and as soon as I hit the trail with it I drop the scratchers and my temps stayed in the 120's pretty much the entire time. I'm going to do the $28 fix over the summer and swap the cutout snowflap with the solid one just to help a bit more for those really bad days. Someone suggested the newer snowflap off the 3" AXYS RMK as an idea too.

I put the axys 3" flap on mine now (installed a 3" track too), runs nice and cool around here and haven't needed scratchers yet. We don't have trails though so I am usually in 1-2" of powdery snow at least.

Any chance we can get a picture of that when you get time?

I agree, scratchers are the real answer. We have had four Pro's and I would say the the factory scratchers work awesome, 123-127 all day. But not reverse friendly. We have not broken any (yet) though. As far as RPM check what BILTIT mentioned and track tension and hi-fax. We were riding with a guy in Idaho last month and he put on new hi-fax and he said he felt like he was dragging a deer around. And he had a turbo.

In addition to the above:

Change fuel/oil filter and have injectors cleaned during the off season. This is assuming you do not know any history on the sled and it has over 1000miles.

Check your oil usage, vent the tank first then turn up pump if it isn't 40-50:1.

Scratchers a must, but you'll still be watching the temps climb at slower speeds on setup trail snow, or dry fluff. Do the $28 fix if you don't want to bother. I'm guessing your conditions as about as tough to cool a RMK as there is at time, with sketchy stretches of low snow.

Regarding clutching - Drive belt - if you don't know how old, try a new one, first. The 015 will look okay, but won't carry RPM once they get 700 or so hard miles on them. Confirm your primary spring is good - I'd just replace it, cheap enough. Are weight bushings good? Is sliding half bushing good, free of slop? Tear down the secondary, is it binding? Of course, clutches clean and aligned. Good luck.
