New to Colorado

Hey Folks,

Its been a long time since I've been active on SW, but I just recently moved to Divide, Colorado from northern Michigan and started lurking a little more. I've traveled out to CO in the past and have ridden in Kremmling and Grand Junction around the Dec-Jan months and had great success. I may have friends from Michigan coming to visit in March and I'm wondering if you guys could recommend any great riding areas a little closer to the Divide area? Right now I'm about an hour west of Colorado Springs for those who don't know where Divide is. Any recommendations on someplace thats not too far of a drive for some deep powder??

I think your closest riding would be cotton wood pass above Buena Vista. Not sure on current snow conditions.

St. Elmo is a good place to start from, especially in the spring, just south of Cottonwood Pass

Now that you are a resident you will probably wont put much emphasis on Dec-Jan riding, the good stuff comes in February. March should be a great time to find the deep powder. I think Cottonwood is your best bet, tons of terrain and normally epic snow.

It should be pretty good right now after the last storm but there are a lot of dry sunny days in the forecast too. You should probably go scout it out for a few rides, you know for the sake of science and all

Hey, I am from MI but I keep a sled in Steamboat and fly out just about every weekend to ride. Like others said, I usually don't get too geeked to ride Dec and Jan because you will usually break stuff. Feb march and even april are great months, especialy if you can get out just after a storm before snow sets up.
