new snohawk

hey everybody I just got a 08 enduro, what a bastard to load and unload,is any body selling extensions, this has had half a tank through it so I am assumeing it is still in breakin, the manual says 10 hours, half a tank is what ,half that, the clutch didnt want to release fully, hitting brake wanted to kill the engine sometimes, and seemed harder to start because of drag,it is still fresh from the crate so I am assumeing just go through clutch set up,or do I want to look at different springs or weights to...it just looked to new to me so I dropped it on the shop floor a few times, the scratches add some nice character

Welcome to the club!

Hardest part of owning a Hawk? You got it, getting it loaded or unloaded, on or off a trailer.

Sounds like you got the wrong belt.

You'll have plenty of scratches on her before you're done.

Cheers!

Damn, too bad you didn't got it last year as I was living in PG too...

First thing you'll have to check is the jetting, stock mains are 490s. I use to run 440s in Powder King with good results. If yours is an enduro you have the big Mattech exhaust system, you may want to try 460s first and look at the plugs and work from there.

Second : Dump the stock airbox and get filter pods. The airbox doesn't allow for enough air to come in.

Third : I bet'ya that your primary pins are either full of set screws or you have solid pins. In either of these cases; take some weight off of them. Get adjustable pin weights and leave only one set screw in each pin as a first try.

These 3 things are really what holds back the 800 hawk IN THE MOUNTAINS... I know a bunch on that as I had the same problem in fall of '07... after you made that mod you'll have a better idea on how the clutches work. If yours is an enduro, your gearing is 30-56. Might be ok for the mountain since you have a 136" track but you may want to gear it down a bit if you're spending a lot of time in the mountain. Mountain Hawks do have 28-56 so 1 to 2 ratio. Eventually you'll want to dump the cog belt drive for many reasons and replace it with a 530 chain drive like many on this forum have already did...

Besides these 3-4 things, there's about another dozen mods you'll have to do on it to make it work like a good 800 Hawk should... !!!

Don't be afraid to ask, we're there to help !

And yes a biatch to load and unload compared to a sled. That thing should have a reverse...

thanks for the tips.I probably will be just putting it away for the summer now , I looked at the belt and I believe it is the wrong one so makes me want to give it a good going through over the summer...I dont have a front shock on my skid ,should I have one

so got it out for a ride, drove on the trailer and off the other side ,clutch problem persists...pulled the clutch off and seems very tight by the buttons so I sanded down that area on the clutch with emory paper, reassembled still not right ...discovered mine came with no spring seat, can push my clutch in all the way by hand with the belt removed, looking forward to get it working properly...

????????????????

what do you mean by spring seat? what is your elevation? We ran the hollow pins and a stiffer spring in the primary. switch the secondary to a black spring and a straight 44degree helix that helps alot with backshift

I do have some extensions if you want. I sent some parts to gordon yesterday you guys need to order together!

You all should update the setup Post with you working setups so we all have an easy reference post to look at.

I mean the primary spring is there but without the seat is not doing anything but sitting there,I can slide the clutch fully closed by hand where the clutch spring should prevent it,and clutch wont fully open as no spring pressure.this is another quality control issue with ad boivin is probably one of the reasons I got it so reasonable .it should have obviously been covered under warranty ,but am glad it wasent ,and I got it and just have to fine tune it..will update on set up once I run some fuel through it and change from stock, mine still has less than a tank through..its hard to see it get dirty and scratched....if ad boivin had a set up guy that went over them and made sure they were all working right I have a feeling the hawk would have made a different impact..15,000 to be plagued with problems that a person dosent understand is rather selective as to who its acceptable to..looking forward to gord getting his back up and running....
