New Polaris guy from Alaska with 900 Questions

I just bought an 05 RMK 900 anniversary edition with the 166" track and now I'm hearing all about the motor mount issues. As well as clutch issues. Hope i didn't get a bad buy. It has less than a 1000 miles on it. Can you all help direct me in ways to what i should do first. It does run.

Welcome to the forum!!

The 900's are well understood and covered in detail in the Polaris 900 Forum...Lots of helpful guys and great info.

I'm copying this post over there... and you'll find that there are lots of high mile 900's in the bunch.

That beast with the 166" track can really get places.

I really like the torque of the motor.

OO OO another 900 guy!!! Do some looking around the 900 forum here. You'll find lots of great info here. Not sure if compfusion is still making his motor mounts but you can get a set of 06 motor mounts and install them if you are in doubt they need replacing. Make sure your torque stops and bump stops are in good condition. Ask the guy prior to you owning the sled if he had the primary clutch balanced and is shimmed for the 1115 belt. If not then I would pull that sucker off and send it to IndyDan at Indy Specialty to have it balanced and shimmed then install that sucker and ride on and ride hard. The 900 is a huge torque monster that chews up and spits out anything you throw at it.

Enjoy!!!!

Read brotha...you'll. find out everything you need.

Where in Alaska are you at? I moved to Anchorage now and I may knw a thing or 2 about these 900s ;) hit me up if you need help

The 900 has gotten a bad reputation in my opinion. There's a lot of 900's that
are strong runners and there's always going to be a few that have problems in every group of sleds. The 08-10 Dragons have problems too but not all of them are bad. The 900 is a powerful sled that when setup well can keep up or even beat some of the newer sleds. It needs to be put on a diet first though.
The 06 Pistons are an improved design. The 05s were known for dropping piston skirts and are updated so you only can buy 06. The 06 engine is layed down a little more along with the jackshaft and chain case lowered to help it not feel as top heavy. The 06 motor has 4 injectors (2 extra in the cylinders) I think to give the Pistons more oil injection and it added like 3 hp while the 05 has 2 injectors in the cases only. The 06 crank snout doesn't have a line around it like the 05 but I've known of one 06 snapping at the snout. The 06 chain case is like the newer 08-10 RMKs it's not as long as the 05 to make it fit when they layed down the 06 engine more I think.

900 no reverse

Well TY for the replies everyone. I returned back from Afghanistan and unloaded the sled to find out the reverse didn't work. I tried to hold the reverse button to rest the altitude and nothing changed. It is in the Polaris dealer and the service tech said one cylinder was 40 psi and the other was 125 psi. Any info would be greatly appreciated. They are doing more diagnosis to find out if the cylinder walls are screwed. Hopefully not I'm hoping i can get away with a re ring and hone job. The low compression on the MAG side was 40 and they said that's why the reverse isn't working :frusty::help::laugh:
