I guess even POO has figured out that the piston are complete CRAP in this motor!:mmph: part that really sucks is they don't help out that current owners , Skidoo stepped up big time and helped out there owners when that had issues........:face-icon-small-fro

Interesting...

I wonder if I could order these pistons, put them in my 12 and retain my warranty

Not likely unless a Polaris dealer installs the pistons and if the old part # is still available that is what they would put in yours.

One of the engine builders said on this forum just a few days ago that the Polaris pistons are fine, it is just the rings that are trouble.

If the pistons are fine why do most people see pistons collapse out of tolerance fairly quickly?

not sure im going along with that. pretty sure its not a ring problem!

pistons

the majority of the time the reason for a part # change is a different supplier. prob still will not be great pistons. If you are due for a top end, just go aftermarket. I like the Wossner pistons from RK Tek that I have installed in my own and for others. They are even priced more reasonable than stockers.

Ya I'm about to blow my extended warranty for the rk tek kit.... Live and learn on the warranty, kicking myself in the arse

REALLY?! I certainly DO NOT recall BRP stepping up to the plate when they sent out flaking rings and bad pistons when the REV was introduced in 2003 nor when there were pin and skirt issues for the '07 800R (the '08 XP's got corrected pistons)! They're every bit as guilty if not worse - I've written volumes on their stuff over on Dootalk, Doo a search!

TRS... Any intel on these? I saw those when the SB 800 '14 fiche popped up a little while ago.... and wondered if that was going to be the superseded field replacement for ALL DC-CFi-800's??

G MAN, I'm guessing someone is referring to either/both the 2001 summit 800 piston replacement program (all 01 8 Summits got a free new top end in 02, had one myself), or the 13 Etec Summit 8 motor program for qualifying 2012 Etecs after so many miles, depending on locale (kinda lame, but better than buckus, which is what we have with poo). Not making guesses for doo, or saying they suck the least. Just sayin. Got hosed by the 04 ring flakes and 07 (bearing) myself, too.

Just to be clear, a new vendor does not always mean a new part number. In a multi-vendor supplier part program, part numbers are the same, regardless of vendor. FWIW. Let's hope the 14's are improved, and they can be used in the 13's.

That makes sense as I wasn't into Doo's until '03 and have not kept up with them recently since buying my Pro.

The superseded number 2204322 shows it works on 11'-13' 800cc Rush Models, Switchback Models and RMK Models. If you go to the 14' microfiche it shows part number 2205176 being the piston part number. That is strange that Polaris would take a new part number off of the upcoming year machine and supersede it to the part number that has been around and active since 11'. Doesn't make sense.

I think it makes sense, they have a bunch of inventory of the old part # and will always want to get rid of the old inventory before the new stock (which they probably do not have on the shelf it may just be a part for the production run engines..

Polaris ran out of pistons in March this year (I know because of that I also ran out due to the dealers calling me to get pistons to fix their customer's engines they had in service) so, they (Polaris Industries) are freshly stocked with inventory of 800 pistons.. You can bet they will be unloading those before any new stock.
As for what is new with this new part #.. One can only guess... Rest assured. Polaris will NEVER admit there being ANY fault with their previous pistons because they would have to replace everybody's pistons under warranty if they did that... and that is surely not going to happen..

Rings?? The rings are fine.. Any ring that is "cantered" due to a sloppy piston will wear uneven after millions of strokes in the cylinder..

Rings can NOT cause skirt collapse (which is the main issue with the OEM pistons.. there are others as well)

Even after what your thought is on the part number it still doesn't to me. Why would you take a new number and supersede it to an old number due to inventory overload. I understand they need to deplete what they have, (that makes sense) but why not wait until they are out of the old number and supersede it to the new number? That would make sense. IMO
