New Phazer comments

Well I have to say the first 100 miles sucked 24mph is a real long slow ride.
But now at the 300 mile point I have to admit they are fun to ride. Handling and ride are great motor is awsome[yes more power would be nice] overall great sled mileage has been around 17mpg and top speed is just over 70-75. going next week to ride the apex and nytro with the dealer so i can see what to buy next. The oil change is an issue so i am letting the dealer do it. Overall great sled for the money and with a 5 year warranty they will make the 20,000+ mile mark.

I just took my first ride on my 07 Phazer last weekend. In one word...."different". My jury is still out as to whether or not I'm going to like it. I'm not a speed freak so the power was not an issue for me. I found you really have to ride it like a dirt bike. Not like my MM 700 where you can just sit and steer, you have to throw your weight around. I found it tippy. The first left hand carve I made I flopped it over stuffed my face straight into the pow. The wife thougt it was funny. I was really impressed with the suspension on the trail. Smoothed out the bumps very nice.
I layed it over a second time on a left hand hip of a sidehill. It just wanted to go downhill when I wanted it to go across the hip. I don't like the plastic front cowlings where your knees go. As soon as you slide forward your knees and shins hit the cowlings on both sides. Do not like the kill switch which you have to take your gloves off to operate.
What I think is going to take the most getting used to, is the torque. Holy Crap! I went over the handlebars once which must have looked totally retarded, and darn near did it about 5 more times when I backed out of the throttle below 20 mph.
This going to be like learning to ride all over again....but in fun way!:face-icon-small-hap

If you are used to a traditional style sled, ANY rider forward machine is going to take some getting used to. You have to "unlearn" what you have learned and develop new riding styles to match the handling characteristics of the new designs. However, if you stick with it and quit fighting it, you will be greatly rewarded.

As for the torque putting you over the bars, you will learn to not chop the throttle, but rather ease off of it....you could also play with the clutching to reduce the backshift if it bothers you that much.

All in all, it's a new sled entirely, and will take some practice and seat time to master.:clock:

Thanks for the good advice.:beer;

My question is how does it do in the powder ?? I am thinking about getting one for my wife and i do not want her to be stuck every five minutes. With the small track is it a problem for you guys to boondock through 2-3 feet of snow? I am also looking at a cat M7 with 155 thanks

So where did you get a 5 year warranty? Dino

I honestly have to say I don't know yet how it will handle 2 to 3 ft of powder. With the 3 to 4 ft. snow we have and no base yet... I haven't ventured too far off the trails for fear of wrecking something. I can say that the second time I got stuck, I dug out the front of the sled uprighted it off its side and onto the track, stood on the right side board and was dam impressed with how it jumped right out of the 3 ft. hole and wanted to go. This was facing uphill as well. My wife saw me riding the Phazer and she wants no part of it. She loves her MM 700. I'd bet the Arctic Cat would be an easier ride for the wife.

you shouldn't compare the phazer to an m7. its comparable to a 550 fan cooled sled with 75HP. if you think it will go where an M7 will you will be disappointed!

My wife hated hers, definitely like riding a dirt bike. A few more ponies and a wider track with a shallower approach angle would improve the sled 100%. Hers went down the road in favor of an '07 RMK 600 HO 155!!

i really did like how the phazer 'felt' but the lack of power was its demise.

a true (no lag) 140ish HP in that chassis would be a blast..

maybe its the narrow track that makes it so fun n tossable.. or "tippy" as some like to put it.

I agree that an M7 is a bad comparison but so is a 550 fan. The fans produce around 60-65 hp. Phazer makes around 80. More in line with something like an M5 liquid cooled sled (80hp).

Wife's has done decently so far this year. It's going to get a really good test this weekend though. We will see.

Your wife will be stuck on a Phazer every 5 minutes in the deep. We saw this all unfold last year in Valemount with my friend's wife. Even with us guys on the Phazer it will not even hang with a stock ZX Skidoo chassis. The Phazer held us back everywhere we went.

Boondocking is easy and the machine likes to lay down in the powder allowing for nice carving. Just don't lose your momentum.

These machines are very nervous/tippy handling in trail conditions and I would worry about my wife riding one. You cannot sit and ride, you must constantly be correcting and steering or it will throw you. Different skis will help some.

An M7 155 will walk all over the Phazer in all conditions and be a lot more manageable for the wifey. But reliability and fuel mileage will not be as good obviously.

You hit the nail on the head. Our Phazer was the hold back for our group last year. Wouldn't go thru a foot of powder uphill, hard to hold momentem, did a lot of track poaching. Still liked the sled enough to install a longer track and with only 1 ride so far in 2 +feet of powder it did WAY better. Still doesnt get all that good of fuel mileage... I see posts of 15 - 17 mpg:rolleyes: We cant get 12. But being a newbe to the 4 stroke thing I still think the sled is ok for what it is. Also I feel it is unrealistic to compaire HP between a 2 stroke and 4 stroke. Its a way differant feel between the two with the same rated hp! Just a few of my observations. Dino

Well we did a test, myself, my wife and 2 good friends all came over, I got demo sleds for the day and my wife picked a 09 RMK 700 over the yamahas,nitro and phazer. I really like my Apex but it's her sled so now we have a 2 and a 4 stroke. Thanks a lot for all the great replies.....:beer;:beer;
