new motor sled wont start

Looking for ideas here. Pretty sure ive covered all the simple crap but just to be safe. I tore my sled down last year and sent my motor off to Indy Specialties for his Long rod kit. Bought new yellow injectors, reeds, etc etc. Basically as new of a motor as I can get for being used. Anyways been putting the sled back together all this week and I cant seem to get the thing to start. I have checked and rechecked everything. I can pull plugs and they have spark. I have tried pooring gas down the cylinders, hooking up 12v to fuel pump to make sure everything is primed and also that it dumps fuel back into the tank. Got a buddies identical sled same turbo and everything to compare to. too me it seems like its not getting fuel, but even when I poored gas down the spark plug holes It still would not fire. If it sits over night the first two pulls it pops off just a little like it wants to fire but that's it. I know I updated my injectors to the yellow ones over the blue ones that were in it and I have not updated my ECM yet, sled goes in next sat for that. But id still think it would fire. SO any ideas here.

Have you tried putting your old injectors in just to see if that is whats holding you out? Double checked all of your connections? Tested fuel pressure? Compression?

it is on a 2011. Im pretty sure I put the injectors in the right hole. Not saying I didn't just screw up but they were marked mag and pto. How do you pull codes without it started and no computer? I have not tested fuel pressure yet and have not tried my old injectors. Injectors are not the easiest to get too with a BD turbo. As far as compression its a brand new motor better have good compression.

start

I haven't looked at an 11 but could you have reversed the fuel line on the pump and the return? You should be able to leave the 12v hooked up to the pump prime plug and try starting it. Same old basics. compression, fuel, and spark at the right time and it should run. You say you have spark and compression so it's got to be in the fuel delivery somewhere. If you can get a gauge on the fuel rail you can verify you have fuel. I'd try that after you check lines at the tank.

I'd say some sort of electrical issue. If you have spark and pour gas in cylinders then it should fire. You sure you have strong spark? Do you have the main ground wire connected to the steering overstructure?

So my guess is you've done this allready, but brand new, properly gapped spark plugs? It's made the differance on my turbo before.

Also is there any chance your getting too much oil? It's pretty easy to accidently wind the pump 360* around when putting that all back on.

Try unhooking the bd box and plugging in just the stock 2 injectors also.

I didn't read all the posts. I'm just going to reply. So check your fly wheel timing. As in make sure the key is in there and in the right spot.

everyone has made some good points. I have checked most. new spark plugs with good spark, cant switch the fuel lines (one connection is bigger then the other), Ill look again for grounds not hooked up, stator pickups I assumed were all done by Indy Specialties and my lights and everything flash when I pull the rope so im guessing they are fine. Oil pump is interesting, I did notice you can just wind this piss out of it when hooking it up. I assumed that you were just winding the spring for more or less tension and it didn't matter to the pump. I couldn't find anything about adjusting it in my book besides the adjuster screw for the the linkage. I did mix 50:1 premix in the first tank of fuel that im trying to start it with. Plan now is to take a day or 2 break and go at it again see if I see something obvious. Then this coming sat its going to the dealership. Maybe they can see something on the computer im missing.

I tore my IQ motor down a couple seasons ago and after putting it back together, I pulled the rope for a long time with no results. Eventually, I got tired and "primed" the engine with a bit of premixed gas down the spark plug holes. Initially, it would run a couple seconds and quit, but after a few tries it did settle down and run normally. I'm sure it took a bit to pump all the air out of the fuel lines, build pressure in the rail, etc. Since I don't know what you took apart, I'll also mention making sure the fuel pump wiring is connected. The sled will never start if the fuel pump isn't connected.....

Like was mentioned earlier, dump some gas in the cylinders and see if it fires. Guessing you have a fuel issue, air in lines or something. Can you hook up a battery to the fuel pump and pressurize the system?

I have dumped fuel into the cylinders and it wont fire. I have also hooked the fuel pump to a battery for about a minute to "prime" the system. I was getting fuel dumping back into the tank. Ill move onto not getting air for some reason...

Check all the easy things first. Not trying to dis, but make sure you have the correct wires hooked up to the correct plugs!

double check the ecm plug, it will look like its plugged in but it takes quite a lot of force to get it to "click" into place.

When I tore down my 11 I had the same exact issue, spark and everything, just wouldn't go. turns out i just forgot to plug the injectors back into the Ecu. Just something as simple as that. It'd be worth a check anyway.

Thats good, I just did mine today as well, dropped the engine in last night and finished it today, took about 12 to 14 pulls to get it started, I didn't have the heart to say anything on your post, I read it last night after I dropped my engine in and was counting the pulls to get it started!

Good luck with your new engine!
Mine sounds differant than before, I hope that's a good thing.

RIDE ON!
