Hi new to the forumn names Tom. I recently picked up a 05 RMK 900 this summer for a good price and figured I would give it a chance after hearing the horror stories behind them. This sled had most the updates and upgrades done to it so I couldnt complain to much. Over the last month I have been going throught it cleaning it up, modifying, and redoing some of the work that was done to it.

Now on to the few questions I have, when I pulled the chain case cover there were alot of metal shavings and the top gear was very wore down. I believe it has the stock gearing for the 05, 19t on top and 39t on bottom. my question is I want to gear it down a bit whats the best gearing to go with? I was thinking 18t on top and 40t or 41t on the bottom. Now i have found the 41t gear but where can I find a 18t gear?

Another question I bought a used boss noss kit and I want to buy a new solinoid because I dont feel comfortable using old nitrous solinoids, where would I go to buy the exact one I need? Also where can I find instructions on wiring the kit in and how to use the controls?

Last question for now... I have the stock pipe with an SLP can was thinking oh getting the SLP pipe also and a mbrp can is that a good idea or should I get the SLP pipe and stay with the SLP can?

Thanks for all the help in advance guys im here to learn.

first off, welcome to the "900 CLUB"

next get a FBF (fat boy frenchy) throttle/oiler cable, check your pistons, get the clutches done, mix your fuel with 2 stoke oil (1 oz/1 gal), and check your front motor mounts

as for the gearing, stock suites me fine in western MT, but since your in there I'd definatly change the top gear, and get a billit alum. chaincase cover from Franz...the plastic one seems to melt

noss? really??
are you related to guido?
I personally dont see the need, but he'd be the man to ask i think

SLP pipe and can work good on mine.....mountian horse will be able to line you out there though......

and definatly read all the sticky's at the top
the 900 is a fickle beast

I'm running 18/39 on my 05 and have no complaints, 18/40 is also a good combo if you want to do spend a couple bucks... I don't believe 18/41 is an acceptable ratio on the 05. 18/42 is too low in my opinion, the 900 has enough torque it will just want to jerk you around.

I've run the stock plastic C/C cover with the additional brace with no issues, but the billet cover would be a great upgrade.

SLP pipe is always good, but you need to make sure you can get your ECU reflashed correctly to address the fuel map.... and I would stick with an SLP can, anything else is just plain loud on a 900.

Welcome to the club:beer;

Thank you for the quick response guys, the few positive things about this sled is when I purchased it he handed me a receipt with over 3300 dollars worth of work done to it including new motor mounts rebuilt motor with 06 pistons new oiler cable and a new recoil ect.., so the hard stuff has been done. As far as the clutches I was planning to have the dealer check them out when I have them put different weights in as I dont plan to take this sled out to the mountains and dont have any knowledge about clutches.

I will also look into the c/c cover as this one had tons of heat tape on it when removed.
If theirs any other issues, hints, or tricks please help me out. Thanks again.

I would send the primary clutch to Dan at Indy Specialty to get fixed up and balanced correctly, that could save your crank from snapping off.

In the stickys there is a lot of information on clutching. Dont buy a "kit", piece one together yourself. A common and effective helix for our machines is the Team 719, Weights according to setup.

Make sure the SLP torque/push arms are installed and the clutches are properly aligned. Also, make sure you have it vented properly. If you are on the hardpack lots I suggest getting some scratchers

As for gearing, I run mostly flat groomed trails and found the stock gearing to have too much top speed, not as quick down low. Went from stock 19/39 90P chain to 18/39 and it was a whole different sled, Tops out at around 80+ with 2 1/4 track. Some dont like running the 18t top sprocket as it is quite small and that may have some ill effects, (but it allows you to use the stock chain). 19/42 92P chain is basically the same ratio as the 18/39 but no small top gear... you need the longer chain tho. If you are going to gen new chain and gears I suggest getting the 19/42 92P setup!

* For those that think I am nuts for going 80+mph on a 2 1/4 track, I dont do that everyday! 60 is the max cruising speed for that lug

I do not have any useful reply as I am new to the 900 as well. But I am curious to your user name. I assume you drive a DSM? ;)

Use to drive a FP black powered built Evo 8 until sold.

Thanks for the help guys I decided to go with a 18/41 gear setup as I most my riding is slow.
Anybody have any info on wiring the boss nitrous kit in?

Does anyone else mix there fuel on the 900????

Yes it is cheap insurance!! SLP pipe has specific can..different than stock pipe SLP can that are ok when they do not drop the innards and rattle/die. Stock pipe MBRP can is good.
18/41 check chain tensioner for adjustment.. you can use ATF for case oil synthetic if ya wanna.. what helix???
Havin Fun Yet...??? oh yeah hold on!!!

Thanks for the help everybody, hopfully ill have the sled buttoned up this weekend if all goes as planned. Another question and this might be a stupid question but what does the knob by the speedo cluster on the hood do? haha thanks again.

That knob is for your headlight adjustment. Up and down, not sure which way is what.

Another question the vac pump that goes to the power valves there two vac hoses one that goes to a tee fitting that goes to both power valves but im lost on where the other one goes any ideas?

I believe you are talking about the exhaust valve solenoid. If so the other line that you are talking about is just a vent/breather to relieve the pressure as the valves open or something like that.

Finished getting it together tonight and bled the air out of the cooling system them went for a quick spin up the ditch and back. But it almost seemed like unless on the throttle it wanted to die out or run on one cylinder and then when I hit the throttle a little on the hard side my temp light would flicker and my speedo/headlight would go out. But once the temp light went off the headlight/speedo would come back while this happened my engine temps were around 125-145 do I dont believe it was over heating. Any thoughts?

Thank you

Does anyone else mix there fuel on the 900????

Sure do!!

Indy Dan will tell u the samething. And he builds all mine (3 currently), and will not warranty them if u don't use 1oz per 1 gallon fuel..

I've been doing it for 4 yrs and need been an issue ;)
