New McCall Trail

We punched a trail yesterday from just north of Association Cabin, through Duck Lake, and over hte top to Fisher Creek Saddle. So, in other words, just norht of Goose Lake you can take a groomed trail over the top adn come out on the fisher Creek/Brundage Reservoir side.

This is a SNOWMOBILE trail, not a cat ski trail.

This trail does indeed lead through some of the primo backcountry play areas which is gonna annoy some of the old school.

However, this is going to save us a day a week grooming as we can do a loop instead of two dead ends to hazard/Fishercreek. This means we can groom even more trails more often.

The trail has some steep spots on it for sure, especially on the descent down towards Fisher Creek side.

The trail was put in with the help and cooperation of the Forest Service and Valley County Grooming program and Idaho Parks and Recreation.

Indeed it does, but I am willing to sacrifice those play areas to more use to help your cause and possibly get smoother trails in and out at shorter intervals:)

Keep up the good work!!!

Yea, it does make some of our local get away areas more accessable but you know, if it helps us in preserving our right to sled in the area I'm all for it. Doug, with the addition of this new trail how many miles of groomable terrain are we left with that can be added in the future. Just curious, I may ask Scott too.

Hey, that's my secret spot....oh well, wasn't the best kept secret anway. Anything that increases grooming is a good thing....speaking of that, what is going on up at the Trinities? We have been up Trinity Creek 3x this year and it has yet to be groomed.

plan is to make this a regularly groomed trail.

Here's what I know. FS says "you can go groom a new trail." County says "does it make sense."
everyone says HECK YES!

so we groom it.

The amount we are now permitted is about 235 miles in the Payette, (I think) how much we have left when the Forest Supervisor finishes her "Winter Travel Plan" is what we are waiting for.. She is suppose to have it out in Feb. and let's all keep our fingers crossed. Could be about the same or could be cut a lot, including restrictions in the acres of open areas too.,,, sorry the winter travel plan is to be out in the summer. If you want to see the details, go to the link and near the bottom are the options for the winter plans, some of them are not good. http://www.fs.fed.us/r4/payette/publications/trvl_mgmt/final eis/final eis index_2007.shtml

I'm pretty certain I know which road it is so yeah, a little bummed (sorry to be selfish) but know it's a good thing all the way around. There's still lots of riding to be had out there in that area - anxious to see how much might be or will be taken from us with the new plan.
