New guy here.

Personally, if you want to do any kind of riding in the powder, don't bother getting it. At the very minimum get a 700cc, but I would recommend the 800cc, because you will be wanting a 800cc by next year....

Howdy, I guess it depends on what type of riding you will be doing, how big you are, etc. The sled should be a great little sled to bomb around on, a great first sled.

Thanks for the responses. I'm getting this just for general riding and a bit of light hauling/towing. Mainly sea level operation. Not much mountain riding at all. And I'm 5'10", 186 lbs.
Anyhow, I guess the main concern that I have is what is the best way to break in a new snowmobile engine?

There lots of different opinions for sure, I generally go by the Doo owners book, It is hard to do though, (kid in the candy store thing), some guys ride it hard the instance they get on them. I always take it easy on my belts too for 20-30 miles. Read your books recommendation (probably add a cup to a pint of oil to the first tank), listen to a few opinions about riding it like you stole it right out of the box and end up somewhere in between!!

P.S. I don't know the price difference from the 550 to the 600, but the 600 the wife has is a super sled, the SDI has great power for it's size.

Good choice. Light, easy on gas, user friendly. Bullet proof engine. My father rides a Fan cooled sled. Not a real power house but when the snow gets ice pack hard or lack of snow, he keeps on riding while the rest of us are throwing snow at the heat exchanger.
The 600 SDI is a great sled also. I'm sure you will have a great time and you can always move up later and give the 550 to the wife or Girl Friend.

Congrats on the beginning of a lifetime of sledding fun. You will be hooked forever.

The 550 is a great pick for a first sled, it's light, has enough power to get the job done and not so much power as to get you into trouble or worse yet hurt. Ride it for a year or two and then step up to a liquid cooled machine. At our elevation the 550 is a really fun sled. ENJOY!!!!

16 new sleds-broke all but 1 in hard and the 1 i broke in easy blew a motor at 200 miles--i put 10 to 20 easy miles with wide open short bursts and then run it good and hard with no looong pulls wot--600 to 800 feet pulls max for 50 miles then:D:eek:

T/A, If I can remember didn't you crank an 07 or 08, 800r. Don't you think that probably would have happened anyways?
