New belt cleaning

I tried the search function because I know I have seen a thread on belt cleaning but I can't find it.

What do most do to a new belt? I believe cleaning with soapy water is done, but what else?

its a mold release not an anti mold but for what its worth, i use a stainless wire brush with gentle strokes to remove the residue then wash with hot soapy water....take it easy for as long as your thumb can take it to break it in....

As hot of water as you can stand and let it sit in liquid dish soap and a tiny 1/4 cup of bleach to over a gallon of h2o...scrub edges and bottom cogs aggressively with scotch bright pad. Run em untreated and the goo glaze instantly seats in the compound and also residues the sheaves. Break in ride your brand new belts that last bit before you get home on the trail once so it's ready for action when or if you smoke one. About 5 to 7 miles of moderate variable action to form the edge cut angle to your clutches and heat soak the compound.

(also note: always lift and drop your sled before you begin riding to break loose a frozen system....good idea to lift and spin a track before loading a cold sled up a steep ramp....liquid of some kind on the hyfax even before you start out. I keep a bottle of liquid wax on hand and spray it on dry hyfax before running sleds in and out of the shop and trailers across dry ground. Sleds are always fast and belts always last!

I used to be a factory sponsored Carlisle racer and tester and it's makes a difference on performance and belt life if you'll follow those procedures.
