New belt after 400 miles...

I took the sled to the dealer for a clutch alignment and a new belt and this is what it looks like 400 miles later. Is this normal?

i would guess it isn't alignment. probably.

venting helps some but depends on how you were riding and snow conditions, gearing and clutching. i've pulled strings in 300 miles on a 115 before. not happy about that with what they cost. i'm going to probably lower the gearing and drop the angle in the helix a little.

Can you give us some more info concerning your clutch setup and riding conditions? It always pays to verify alignment was set properly. Make sure the motor mounts were all tightened and clutches are in good working order.

That being said. The black marks are not uncommon with stock clutching. The belt is slipping and creating some very undesirable heat. If you are in and out of engagement quite a bit or doing some slower tree crawling that can easily happen.

OEM clutch weights have some flaws that rear their ugly head with these high torque motors. They just don't generate enough side force at engagement. The best fix is to switch to a Heavy Hitter or MTX weight. A person can also go to a lighter initial rate primary spring. Something like a 120/340. Team bright yellow or SLP black/pink.

There are other ways around it with a helix change too. Basically shifting through low gear very quickly with a steeper initial angle helix. This allows the primary to shift up to a point where it is more efficient. I just never felt this is the best place to start. Your clutching setup begins in your primary and your problem is in your primary. If what I described is correct then you will want full use of low gear. Which is what the weights and spring will accomplish.

Can tell you're not getting full shift either.

My clutches were out of alignment and was almsot a full inch of from getting full shift. It can definitly cause belt problems.

I had to slot my engine mount strap like some guys have done, and had to add several spacers behind the secondary.
 
The belt is the 3211115 from Polaris. As far as the clutching goes, I have the pink green spring, mtx weights, 62.42.40 helix with stock spring and added 3 derlin washer. I also went to 19 42 gearing when I did the drop and roll. The track spins super easy with the belt off so Im ruling out the drop and roll. Is there anything else I can check??
 
Have you been running that clutch setup without problems before you took the sled in? What type of riding were you doing?

You just eliminated a bunch of possibilities. So, lets narrow it down some more. It could still be a clutch alignment/offset issue.

Have you tried any other primary springs besides the 160/340? That is a really stiff spring and probably just offset what the mtx weights can handle.
 
I spoke to Fastrax today and they think my helix is to steep. Im going to put the stock one back in and see if I get full shift and go from there. Thanks, I'll keep you posted.
 
im runnung the stock helix with stock spring and 60's in the primary and i had the 115 belt put 200 miles on it and all the strings started coming out im going to see if the they will warranty it they have several others we had do the same thing they have had some probs with that belt the outside likes to come off of it to
