New 2010 M8 Sno pro 7800 Rpm ? problem?

Perhaps stupid question time, so be kind.... Just picked up the new 2010 M8 Sno pro. How much break in time? Put on 66 miles today. At 10,500- 11,000 feet if I did a very short pull, it would rap up to 7900rpm and then slowly settle down to 7800 or even lower. Not much difference at lower altitude but couldn't really test at lower elevation.

Do I have a problem? If I nailed the throttle on a straight away packed, I might see 8000rpm for just a bit. Then it would go down to 7900 7950 or so. The primary Spring is all black, don't see any orange/black on that spring. Never saw 8100 or 8200 even if for just a second. And apparently that is where I need to be.

The clutch engages at 4100rpm, thought I heard they are supposed to engage higher.

Used 7 gallons in 66 miles (9mpg) (I'll measure oil usage later tonight)

Other than that, pulls great, seems to really run. Scary sometimes. Track really hooks up. Had 2005 M7 before this.

Love the seat, love the bars, love the track, it seems really "tight" and solid, love the running boards, nice and light for sure.

what weights do you have in your primary? I run the same elevation with 65g weights with ~2 grams taken off the tip (so ~63g). Engages higher than yours with stock black spring. I'm at 8000-8250rpms on flats. 8000+rpm on pow climbs. I am now at 180 miles and it just keeps getting stronger and pulls higher rpms the more miles I put on it. How have you broken in the motor thus far?
 
i have 2010 m8 at 10000ft i have 68gram weights stock spring and stock 36 helix. pulls 81-8200 up the hill. i also have shift assist in which lowers max rpm 1-200. sled is stock other than mbrp can
 
I was wondering the same thing about mine i have a 2010 m8 sp 162 and i put 45 miles on it and mine was doing the same thing. and i went and talked to the dealer about it and he said that you just need to ride it and break it in more and it will start pulling higher rpms and they said they really start to come alive around 500 miles. i also have been told that they are changing back to the 09 drive spring because the ones in the 2010s are a harder spring and they are beaking. but not sure if i should change it or leave it.
 
Make sure your primary spring isn't broken. Rotate the clutch by hand and examine the coils. Breakage is common before 500 miles. The recommended replacement from my dealer was Yellow/white spring which gives lower engagement and same top end.
 
Mine was the same way. The first ride I couldn't pull over 7750 rpm at 9000 ft elevation on the trail, it was even lower in the powder. One thing to check, is there any slack in your throttle cable? On my sled I could pull the throttle between 1/16 and 1/8 inch before the slack in the cable was taken up and the throttle bodies started to open. After adjusting this my RPM went up because the throttle bodies were now opening all the way. This also was messing up my Throttle Position Sensor and gave my sled an occasion low speed "hesitation" or "hick-up" that went away as soon as I took the slack out of the cable.

That being said, my sled didn't reach full power or peak RPM until it had around 500 miles, so be patient.

I appreciate the responses and good advice to wait a bit. On the second ride (although short) I could feel response was better already. I don't know what weights are in it but we'll wait after 300 miles or so before I take to dealer to change anything.

The lock nuts on the track tension came loose on second ride and track came totally loose. Drivers slipping. No lock washers on those bolts but maybe not needed. I tightened those nuts as much as I could on the adjustments, so we'll see if it comes undone again.
 
The stock weights are 68's from the factory. The 162's have a hard time at high (more than 9000ft) elevation with those 68 and we have been using 65's with great success. At the dealer show they told use they would come with 65's in 2011.
 
Sorry to butt in, but I picked up a used '09 M8 last week and rode the snowies... (10-12k) The stock weights (6-9k rated) only allowed about 7000 rpm, and REALLY low engagement, like 3500rpm or so. I put in the high altitude weights (actually, one gram lighter...) and I'm still only getting about 7800 out of it, and the engagement still seems low, but it works well like this. No broken springs found.

Is AC trying to keep the RPM a little lower on the big bores??? (My old 600 was rated for 8200, and that's where the recommended parts put it usually...)

Do you know of any web sites that have the spring ratings?

I'm running at 1000 feet or less and the orange spring the dealer gave me to replace the broken Black one, it is unbearably slappy when engaging.

It makes riding in deep snow between trees difficult at best.

70 gram weights in.
