Need some local advise Colorado Springs/Monument...

Needing a little direction from any fellow sledders in the area. My son is a Green Beret stationed at Fort Carson and will be returning from Afghanistan hopefully around the end of the month. He has a room in another team members house currently, but that situation has changed and he now has to move as soon as he hits the ground stateside.

I am trying to do a little leg work to help him out as he is serving in a very remote area right now and communication is limited. Would any of you locals have any leads to possible housing opportunities in the Colorado Springs area north to Monument or in that general area. I have never been there, just quoting his message. Son is a single guy that is very detailed and responsible and knows how to take care of things.

An ideal situation would be a mother in law house on the property, the room over the nice barn or garage, a cabin or RV set up off the beaten path, or a home or apartment in the right location. He would be a great caretaker/house sitter/security for the right people or location.

Any idea where to post and ad or do a search to find this type of arrangement. I’m sure he would be open to any other suggestions as well if there is something that would work. He will deploy about a year from now again and has a training slot out of area between now and then.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance. EW.

AZ, wasn’t trying to be weird, what is the weird part. I’ve been on SW for about 10 years, not so much in the last few though. Wasn’t exactly looking for an apartment owner, I know the odds of that. Was really looking for any help, ideas, or direction on how to begin researching housing possibilities in that area. I did a somewhat similar post years ago when he was enlisting and getting conflicting statements from a recruiter. A fellow Snowester stepped in and and helped him a lot. Thought it was worth a shot. He got it handled, thanks for your thanks I will for sure pass it on. EW

Whole forum has slowed down, and seems even more so for the CO section. Lucky if you can get a conditions report from anywhere besides the Ears. So just the times.

Don't really know Springs area, so kept my trap shut. Only thing i thought, was that i would want to be closer to Carson that Monument.

Most of Colorado is on mark zuckerbergs place.

Housing in northern Colorado Springs/Monument is VERY expensive. Medium rental for 2 bedroom apartment is $1200/month.

If he will be stationed at Fort Carson, he will be 25-30 minute drive from Monument. Rentals/apartments will be more affordable in areas closer to Fort Carson such as Security or Fountain.

Your best bet is to keep an eye on craigslist. If he needs a week or two to crash, he is welcome to borrow a spare bedroom of ours upon his PCS.

10th group is really tight. I'm sure they will take care of him when he returns....after all, they moved soldier's widows with them when they moved to Ft Carson from Fort Devens, MA back in '94.

Colorado Springs ain't nothing like it was when I was stationed at Fort Carson back in 1991.

Thanks for your response and your service Drewd. As of this week I think we have a deal worked on an apartment about halfway north to Monument. Wasn’t the perfect world for him but way better than any roof he’s been under since last fall, lol. He has to leave to Bragg for training in June until fall so maybe he can house hunt then. I/we sure appreciate your time and generous offer of the spare room. If ever up NE Washington way please shoot me a message and I’ll return the hospitality. Got a great place on Lake Roosevelt and a cabin in the hills you are welcome to. Thanks again. EW.

As others have said, housing is tough. I have a friend near Fountain/Security that also works on base. I'd imagine the military would have a couple options for him as well. If he is only gonna be there for a few months a lease would not work.
By end of month I assume you mean end of March, so...
