Need Pipe cross refrence HELP...ASAP PLEASE

I have a very good friend on vacation here in SW colorado. He has been loving the blue skies and fresh track every day until sunday. Dan the man decided to play chicken with a big tree and to everyones surprise the tree won. I guess it was a surprise! Anyway, He has an 2005 Mountain Cat 900EFI. In his losing cause the pipe got bashed in. So did the belly pan and hood but we got that covered already.

My question is....What pipes will cross refrence for the 05 efi? I can pick up a pipe off of a 03 carb 900 dirt cheap for him. Will this fit? They look identical on the parts diagrams and in person. Is there any hidden risk to this swap I am not thinking of? I am a polaris rider (turbo dagon) and am not real familar with the parts fitting of cats. Also will a 800 pipe work? To the eye they all look the same even though I am sure there a subtle differences.

Three weeks of vacation left and want to get back out to the snow. Can anybody help Dan out with some info....THANKS

Based solely on part numbers from Cat's web site, the interchange is '05 and '04 King Cats and ZR900s. I do know that when I was looking at aftermarket pipes for my '03 900 1M, SLP told me the '04 and '05 pipes could not be put on my '03. A more experienced mechanic may be able to provide better guidance.

Nope, the EFI 900s have a different pipe then the carb 900s. The EFI 900 pipe is a lot (3/4 of a inch if I remember right). on the exit. you need a EFI 900 pipe.

'03 900 has a slightly different angle to the muffler mount ring for the gasket. I was able to mount the '05 carb pipe and rubber frame mount to mine. But had to shave the rubber down to change the pipe angle to the muffler. Fit perfect! Also I think the Y pipe is different "longer" on the EFI incase that got damaged? Otherwise yes you need a EFI pipe! But why does the EFI need a different pipe set-up? That much more fuel efficient? MIke
