NEED OPINIONS PLEASE!!!

I am getting a new (or newish) pro here real soon but I am a bit torn on what to get.

Option 1) 2012 PRO 800 w/155 track that has 750 miles on it still have a full two year warranty for $9250 OTD

Option 2) 2012 PRO 600 w/155 track brand new off the showroom for $9200otd

I have been riding a bone stock Dragon 700 since it was new in 2008. Here are my concerns, if I go with the 800 I know they have had motor problems as well as injector problems (which were supposedly fixed for '12) and Polaris' 800 has always been a problem motor. Runs amazing when it runs but fails just as often for one reason or another. But I am also afraid if I go with the 600 I will be wishing I went with more power.

So I have a brand new sled with great reliability but less power or a sled with all the power I need but it already has miles on it and obviously less reliability. I go everywhere anyone else does on the 700 but on really deep days it does make it more of a challenge.

What do you guys think? Honest opinions please! Not just that I should go for the power!

IMO the 600 pro will get you into plenty if trouble and go more places than your D7. My dad and I both rode 2011 pro's and had no issues. I think you should go with the 800.
You will love it, nothing like riding the best stock sled money can buy.

If I were you I'd go with the 800. With the warranty your engine will be covered If something happens. That's the whole reason I bought a new sled this year for the warranty.

Now I've heard the 600 is a fun sled, but I still haven't ridden one. But I've never heard anyone say they want a sled that weighs the same, with less power. Just my opinion.

Honestly I think the 800 problems are a bit blown out of proportion. I can honestly say that we have never had a motor out of a pro ride sled whether it be a rush or an rmk, 600 or 800. We have seen a couple injector issues, one was a 600 pro r and the other was an pro rmk 800. that was from the wires rubbing through. That's my honest opinion but I'm sure someone will let me know that my opinion is wrong. Whichever route you decide to go I guarantee you'll have a blast.

I have a 2011 pro and i love it. I have not ridden the 600. I would be willing to bet that the 600 pro would be able to make it farther than the stock 700 that you have been riding. If you were happy with where the 700 could take you, then the 600 would be the better option. It has a better track record than the 800, but the 800 has two years of warranty left if you are worried about the motor. The 800 will get you to places that you wish you could have gone with the 700 dragon. If you are really worried about the motor run it for two years the either upgrade sleds or get a motor for Indy Dan and then you will not have to worry for another five years.

Which ever you decide you will have lots of fun with it.

going over this as well. im leaning towards a 600 for a few reasons, a big one is it will be fun to be the underdog on a little 600.

Last spring I got to ride a 2012and 600 pro and the 2013 800polaris pro. The 600 can get you alot of places and is fun. The 800 was a blast (yes it was the 13) but I felt more relaxed that I had more power/ extra with the 800 if needed. With the 2 year warranty I would buy the 800.
Difficult choice, good luck.

IMO the 800 is still overpriced, if both were brand new the 800 has about a $500 up charge over the 600. So you really aren't getting your money's worth on the 800 especially being used. I'd ask them to drop the price on the 800 or buy the 600 and 660 it if you need a little more. Most 660 kits blow the 800 stock away and you have reliability working for you. If you decide the 800 anyway, over the summer get Indy Dan's long rod option and have a real 800 with no worries. With the additional crank case volume it is supposed to pull very hard for a stocker. I have an '11 CFI being done as I Type.
I like both and ride both, really can't pick a overall winner. Both fun and both awesome rides.

Last year I had a 2011 Switchback Assault(800/144") and a 2012 Pro RMK 600. I sold them both(the 600 Pro RMK to my best friend) and bought a 2013 Pro RMK. It will be another 600. I love this little buggy. I'm a believer that you can buy too much machine. I'm about 175lbs at 6' and don't do much high marking. With that said, I was with some 800 e-tech/m 800 guys last year that could get 10-15 higher than me on the hill but I had more fun pushing my little 6. As a matter of fact the guy on the 800 cat(162") thought I was on an 800 when discussing the day at the bar.

With that said, what is your weight? What is a typical riding day for you? highmarking, tree running, jumping?

On the surface I would buy the 600.

I am 5'9, 165 and we ride a lot of steep in the trees stuff. Personally I dont really like going straight up a chute and straight back down. I like technical riding, leave the truck and never see a trail all day. I have ridden both the 6 and 800 and liked them both. I know I can make the 600 go where I want to go, its just a matter of if the 600 will get me out of where I shouldnt go when I get there? When I rode the 600 we were in about 3 ft of fresh an I never got stuck once. When I rode the 800 we were in about 5 or 6 ft of fresh and everyone was getting stuck lol. Thanks for the opinions so far.

Have you ever heard anyone say I wish my truck had a smaller engine?

We had two 09 RMK Dragon 800's. And then we got two 2011 Pro 800's two years ago. I don't know about the 2012 600 Pro, but the 2012 800 Pro, would defiantly spank your 700 Dragon.
Get the 800 and don't look back.

One of our 2011 Pro's has 1800+ miles and the other has 800+ miles.
Between the two, we had one exhaust temp sensor fail. That's it. $.02

Ok we have talked about the size and performance comparisons but what about which one looks better or sharper in your opinion. It is nice to buy a sled that is new compared to one that is used and has been poss pounded.

Since your a pretty light guy and you have been going pretty much where you wanted to with a D7 I would only believe you will get further with the 600 besides having a new sled. I would be thinking real hard about the 600 but it just depends on what you want more. I know you will have fun either way.

I'd have fun riding a 1987 Phazer if thats what it came down too. I just love being on the snow. The 800 is really clean, can barely tell it was ridden to be honest.

Heres another thought, if I felt like the 600 didnt end up doing it for me in stock form I could do a PA head and a SLP pipe and gain about 17ish hp plus the 6 is lighter stock than the 800 and would loose more weight with an SLP set up..... What do you guys think of that idea? The PA head doesnt really jeopardize the reliability of the engine does it?

I have both the 2008 d7 155, camo extreme, slp, pcv, 2012 pro skid and the 2012 600 155 stock. I can ride the 600 all day and get it to go where I want. Super fun and light on it's toes type of ride. The 700 has one advantage, its going straight up, other than that it wears me out sidehilling and playing in the trees compared to the 600.

That puts you really close HP wise to the 8 stock, as I've heard they are dynoing the 6 at roughly 130HP now. The 6 is pretty bullet proof and unless you forget to put oil in or really tweak the fuel curve the wrong way the engine will be fine. The PA head is no concern as far as reliability goes. For a few more clams the 660 can be had as well.

600 and 800

Last year I put about 350 miles on a 2012 800 pro rmk. And about 250 miles on a 2012 600 pro rmk. I had both of the sleds at the same time so I would trade back and forth from week to week. I really hated to see the 600 go. I like sidehilling in tight terrain and picking tight uphill sidehilling lines through trees and varying up down crossing drains ect. I noticed the biggest lack of power in the long straight pulls and not in the tight, in my honest opinion what the 600 lacked in full on torque it more than made up for in nimble maneuverability. I ultimately ended up buying a Std. Rmk 800 for my personal sled but if there had been a std 600 Rmk it would have been a very very tough choice. I had an IQ 600 when they came out in '06, it absolutely ripped but no comparison to the 2012. I also had a 2007 600 155, I really like the poo 600 but the 2012 600 is an awesome sled. And like said before if it wasn't quite enough a 660 or a turbo on it would be a lot of fun! Just my two cents.
