Need New Primary Clutch...options?

On Saturday, my one of my clutch weight bolts broke and the primary threw the weight out through my clutch vent/belly pan. Got the cover off the primary and the roller for that weight is smoked, and I have misc. grooves and dents all over the primary from parts getting bounced around before it came to a stop.

What are my options here? I basically need a new clutch and would like to get a calibrated one with the weights and spring that I could just bolt on and go.

The sled is a 2005 M7.

I looked around & asked about primary options when I needed one, came down to the supreme unit(pricey but badass) or stock, I went stock, it was just easier since you can just throw back in what you had & go.

In stock

We have clutches in stock we can put weights and spring in them and ship out They will fit 05-06 M6 and M7 also fit 07-09 M8 250.00 Plus shipping.

Ok, I don't mean to hijack this thread, but it did remind me of a question I have:

What is the average life of a M-Series Primary clutch? We have an 06 M6 that is approaching 3000 miles and I am wondering if it is time to start shopping for a primary. I already planned on doing some secondary work this off-season, mine as well make sure both clutches are up to par.

Thanks!

John

That should have the new style primary with set screws holding the weights. These are much more reliable than the old style where the weight actually moved on the pin.

If you keep up on proper maintenance, it should last the life of the sled. I've got 5600 miles on my '06 XFire 7, both clutches are original other than some of the wear parts.

2006 M7
lost my spider at 4k miles
got a new 8.25 primary from catdeals.com for $299 without weights or springs.
Looks like mmsports has a great deal though!:face-icon-small-ton

I would say the life is around 3000 maybe 4000 if your lucky. Spider cracks or rollers fail. Taking out the whole clutch.

I only got 1200 miles on mine before the roller failed and it chewed up one of my weights, and I clean mine every ride. Lucky for me it was warranty. The price of a new one around here was 600 uncalibrated!

Thanks for the responses on clutch life, Im thinking this summer it will get a new primary (If needed) and I will change the rollers on the secondary.

MMsports that is an awesome price for the clutch..Both calibrated and uncalibrated!

we have three 06 m7's in our group and last season all in one month all three lost the primary right around 2000 miles like clock work. two of them lost a roller and took out weights and mine cracked the spider bad enough to where it spun on the threads. at the time on the web we found a deal on new '08 clutches for like $280 bucks and thats what we all have now and so far so good. so like others have said it sounds like mmsports would be the way to go.

A note on the set screws, you might want to check them every once in a while. Lost one on my last ride, ate into the tower and roughed up the roller. Thinking I can save it as the roller is rough but still round. Have a new screw coming (THANK YOU freeagent :rose:) but I'm definitely going to put some loctite on the screws from now on.
