Well I got my Mountain Horse kit rigged up to my 12 KTM 300 XC. Went out for a short test ride. Threw the chain and it tore the case in the process. Looking for a motor. Anybody have anything out there? Thanks in advance!

Thats a crazy failure. I thought the case guard around the sprocket was to protect against that.... wonder why it didn't
If you knew my luck you would understand why it failed
Wow! Thats a freak thing. If you find a complete motor and want to sell your top end let me know. Check ebay. I see mostly older stuff but you might get lucky.
Looks like thime for a brc500 kit. I think they come with cases

It's always repairable. I've got four little kids and between that and work I don't have time to go piece by piece on a rebuild as much as I want to.
Crate motor ordered. Painful, but quickest way to get this thing back on the snow. Thanks for the responses!
From KTM? Or you went with the BRC motor?
The BRC route would have been sick. Not in the cards this time. Made a deal with OEMdirtbikeparts.com. Talked to them on the phone and they were very helpful.

Did you send yours in as a core?
No. Holding on to it. Eventual rebuild. With my luck I should have a spare on hand.
Was that a 16 timber sled mountain horse kit? Lots of info on the defective chains that came on that kit. Mine smashed right through the case guard when it snapped and destroyed the case on my CR 500 a few years back.
I think it’s a 15. Bought it from a coworker. New chain is on the parts list.
Get DID VX3 chain very good chain.

ALWAYS have switched the crappy stock chains to DID o-ring chains and never had a failure so far.
Change the chain in the chain case also
