Got 15 acres thats just bare dirt right now and I mainly have a squirl problem, the neighbor has a few hundred acres of almons and they are tearing his crop up and harvest is in a few weeks. Need to get rid of em ASAP. The AG commisioner said to put down zinc tablets in the holes and cover em up, yeah 15 acres and 1000+holes:rolleyes: plus its expensive. cant smoke bomb em or propane blast em cause of fire threat (and about 3/4's of cali is burned up already anyways) What other options does one have? Disc the field then hit the active holes as they come back is my last thought anyone???

Also have a cat problem at my house, the dog cought one, cant get a shot at em to many to trap what else works? Thanks guys!!!!!!!!

sounds like you need a .17 HMR :D

disking the feild wont do much, it only disturbs 6-8 inches of top soil at most and they'll get up thru that very quickly.

a riding lawn mower or ATV with a flexi hose exhaust will work, dump some oil in the gas to get er smoking good then shove the exhaust down the squirril hole and run around plugging up the leaks. Do it after a good rain or use a sprinkler to dampen the soil.

I suppose disking the field then dragging it smooth would help with the lawnmower trick. It'd plug up a lot of holes for you.

How close are your neighbors? What does the zinc tablets cost? Trapping cats is fun. Get a live animal trap. The mean ones are a kick, let the dog bark at him. After that kill it, relocate it, animal shelter, what ever. Cats can only be caught once so remember that. My Brother would spray paint the cats he caught blue then relocate them across the river, never saw a blue cat here again.

If you are a dog person, you should get 2 of these dogs, (Jagd Terrier, or "German Hunt Terrier")we have one, we have lost all 7 of our cats (while the dog was still a puppy!), we live in a cut out spot in an alphalpha field and now NO mice, and she has killed numerous squirrels, and 2 rock chucks. Her mother killed a full grown badger right in front of the owners who could not get a shot at the badger cause of the fight. Ours is 17 lbs of fury, I am a Rottweiler breeder and this little b!tch will fight our 135 lb stud to a draw. Sweet and loyal people personality, but hell on wheels to vermin. The Germans used them as bear dogs, YES bear dogs, and here in S.E. idaho they have been used as dual hound dogs for both bear and mountain lion. The word on the street is DO NOT have more than 3 in a pack, or they will kill each other. Try this website,

But be forewarned, if you are not prepared to accept the responsiblity of this breed in keeping it obedient trained and contained, your neighbors will hate you if they have cats, or dogs!!

You might laugh, but these small terriers are incredible, attached are a few pics of our vermin killer!

Feel free to ask me or Snojo about this breed, we will ALWAYS have one with our Rottys.

Also, if any one has a male of these, we are looking to breed our b!tch for pups. She just turned 2 years old, and we are prepared for a litter. She is however, not full blooded, has some Jack Russel in her, but we want to continue her working abilitys.

Let us know! Thanx.

hire me and a couple of buddys to come over with our AR-15s with 30 round clips, all ya gotta do is pay for amunition. haha

I agree with the right dog thing, I have 2 Jack Russell's that are hell on cats, gophers, mice, etc, pretty much anything. JRT's are visious little bastages, but great, loyal, protective, family dogs. The boys at work know better than to go into my truck when I'm not there. :beer;:beer; Good luck.

If cats are ****ting under a deck or you have a problem area, you can spread lime and they wont go near it.

its 15 acres of bare dirt, no fencing, on the other side of town and across the street are houses. If there werent I would have already been over there with some buddies, beer and bullets!

trying to lease it out but right now but theres no water so a dry crop such as winter wheat would be ideal, but trying to find someone to do 15 acres is a little tough.

I may just go in a disc it then try to keep up on the active holes with either smoke bombs or the zinc.

thanks guys!

sounds like the area needs some coyotes.

people including myself shoot them around here cause they have almost destroyed the pheasant and quail population, and since theres a guy who has a pheasant club and raises 25000+ pheasants a year right on the other side of the 15 acres, I dont think he cares for them either.

the stupid thing is, this is the first year the county ag dept hasnt done this, they used to take care of squirrel and alot of certain rodent problems, but since $$$ is down for them this year its now our problem, which is fine but now they get to regulate how the area gets treated, which is the most expensive and time consuming way, go figure!
