I think the issue is a little blown out of proportion, very few complaints on the 13'+ sleds.

I agree that it has been blown out of proportion. There was a stretch where Polaris had issues with some motor issues, but those days are pretty much over with. A lot of people have issues because they run poor quality ethanol rich fuel, and also don't let the sled warm up enough. It should be above 120 before you start riding, and most people just hop on them and go.

Yes. There have been numerous piston issues.

The majority were 2008-2010 Dragons-- lots of burn downs.

2011 Pros were better-- we own two-- 4300 miles no piston issues, 3000 miles no piston issues
2012- own one- lost a motor due to poor piston install by bad dealership me mechanic-- covered under warranty

Just picked up another used 2011-- pulled topend @ 1700 miles, all looked good

2013- thicker cylinder skirt-- less reported problems
2014- same as 2013-- continuing decline in reported problems
2015- same as 2013-- again, few reported problems

Are they all Toyota Camry reliability?-- no. If you take care of it, warm it up in the morning, run good oil, the odds are you will have a good experience.

Has everyone had 0 problems? No. But what you read on the forums is the culmination of every bad experience, venting, and brand bashing.

When looking at responses-- look at the responder. See how many posts they have, read the type of posts they write-- you can get a good idea of their motivations.

I think if you get a good deal on the 2014 indy 800, you will enjoy it.

Go for it!

Thanks guys for the info that makes me feel better. The sled is suppose to replace my 04 f7 an 05 rev 800 which are both over 6500 miles an are starting to be very unreliable an im sick of sinking money into them. An I'm ready for something new I've owned them sense brand new.

I don't think it is pistons as much as the epa tune. Trail sleds have fared MUCH better. They have an additional heat exchanger which keeps temps more consistent and trail sleds to not see the same amount of WOT time under heavy loads. They are going to be a lot easier on pistons to begin with.

I bought a holdover Pro RMK this season, I love it. All of my buddies but one right now have sleds down for repairs. The other one running is also new. Get a new one!
