Need help with the Dodge

2006 cummins

This morning the key would not start it, but the remote would. It will not start by remote with the key in the ignition(engine immediately quits).

When you try to start with the key you get nothing, not even a click.

It seems to not recognize the keys(I have tried both), but the remote lock/unlock on the keys still work.

Dealer says he will not be able to look at it until December 23. I still have one month of waranty.

Help

What is the #1 cause? The keys, the remote starter? I have a shut off switch below the dash for the starter, shutting down the remote does not solve the problem.

Thanks

Its actually in the aftermarket module that controls the remote start. My suggestion is bypass the whole thing and rewire like it was from the factory.Basiclly isolate the remote start system.

Thanks guys, I will give both a try. Starting with the easy one first.

When I use the key, sometimes it tryies to start and then dies, then I get that flashing security light on the dash, that is why I thought it ws not recogniing the keys.

The remote start is wired into the ign switch and theft deterrant, if the remote start module fails, the key wont be recognized. seems to happen more when cold. I have torn many apart and it seems the substandard soldering is to blame in the aftermarket components. If you can find where the hid the module when they installed the remote start, try heating it up with a heat gun or maybe a hairdryer, just a thought. most of the time they hide them under the dash kick panel under the steering wheel. pull the kick panel off and i bet it is zip tied to the dash brace. for what it is worth.
