Need help with pipe on 2003 rmk

Need to replace my pipe on a 2003 rmk 600 vertical escape due to tree damage. There was a slp pipe in it.

Question is can or should I just put a stock pipe on it and if so will the existing can work? Or do I need to pay the money and replace it with another slp pipe? Not sure if I would have to tune or anything by going back to stock?

This is for my kids so I'm not overly concerned with more hp or anything. I haven't been able to find anything used so far not to mention I'm not real sure what is compatible.

Thanks so much! Wish I wasn't so clueless on sleds....

Pipe

If you replace the SLP pipe with a stock pipe, you will need to change the can/silencer to one that is stock or made to hook up to the stock pipe. Check the Swapmeet for parts. If you go back to a stock pipe, you will need to change main jets and may need to change clutch weights. There should be a jetting and weight chart on a sticker under the hood or on the clutch cover. All this stuff is not real complicated, but all makes the world of difference on how the engine performs.

I was thinking it might involve that which is a bummer for me. Maybe I should just stick with another slp. Any ideas on how to find the right pipe? There are no markings on it and I can't seem to find anything definite on google or on slp's website. The can is marked 09-239.

One more thing, the can has a fairly small dent in the neck. Think this is an issue as I would like to reuse it if possible?

Thanks again

You said that you had an SLP pipe, but you did not say whether you had an SLP can as well. The pipe only, and the pipe plus can, were supposed to be two separate length pipes. If you currently have a stock can, then you can drop a stock pipe back in there, except the SLP y-pipe is different from the polaris stock y-pipe. You have to use the polaris y-pipe with the polaris pipe. You may have some minor change in main jetting by going thinner, but not necessarily. You may also have to drop your needle by one notch, but not necessarily. You just see how much it is on the rich side, when you put a stock pipe back in. The difference in horse power, between the SLP pipe and the stock pipe, will be noticeable. If it is too rich, you will notice how weak it is at the highest elevation that you ride. If the plugs are covered with oil, then it is too rich. If the top of the piston does not have any clean spots in the corners, then it is too rich.

To the best of my knowledge SLP did not offer a single pipe for the 600 in the edge. They did offer twins for the edge. Hot seat performance offered one and Carl's had one made for their 660 kit. Polaris did offer a stock pipe that was ceramic coated in their accessory catalog for a short time also. It sounds like you have a stock pipe and y pipe with a SLP can. The # on the can should come up in their on line info for install instructions. If you are still looking I have a brand new pipe, a used SLP can, and a used Y pipe, that have fresh ceramic coating that has not been installed since they were coated that I would like to sell.PM me if interested.

Yes there is a slp can - #09-239. According to support at slp this can was designed to use with a stock pipe. The pipe I have is ceramic coated and looks like a slp but there are no markings on it so I don't think it is. The coating does have a run which makes me think someone just did it. Maybe it was a stock someone coated or another aftermarket I don't know.

Bushwacker1, I think you are right that there was no single slp pipe for this year/model.

Called 2 polaris dealers today and one said I could just get a new stock pipe without the heat shield and it would be fine. The other one said I would have all kinds of problems if I didn't order the entire assembly, heat shield and all. One is about $200 and the other $600, hence my dilema.

Would like to go the cheap route but not sure if it's wise??

Thanks for the input so far.

Pipe

OK, I just checked the SLP website, and no listing for a single for a ves 600. You just need to find stock pipe. Many riders have removed their heat shields to save weight. You just need to put reflective heat tape on the bottom side of the hood to keep the heat off the hood. Look at the installation instructions on a 700 CFI, and SLP tells you to remove the under hood foam and install provided reflective tape. You can get a roll of this at your local hardware store. It is used for sealing around furnace ducting and is usually in 100' x 2" rolls. Check the pipes/cans section of the Swapmeet for a used pipe. And check some snowmobile salvage yards across the country for a used pipe. (Recycled cycles and the sledshed are the two that come to mind). An XC chassis should share the same pipe, and the Pro-x should be different, but some fit.
