Need help with 1997 Polaris Indy RMK 700 Hood Compatibility?

My 17 year old son flipped his uncles machine yesterday. "1997 Polaris Indy RMK 700" Hood was destroyed, now he is in trouble and on crutches. :face-icon-small-sad Trying to figure out what other hoods might fit to keep the family peace and it looks like old hoods are tough to find. Does anyone know if a 1997 XLT 600 will fit? Any information on compatible hoods for other years and machines would be deeply appreciated.
Trying to avoid due to cost but what company for reasonable after market hoods?
Thanks to all for any help.

The 97 XLT hood should fit no problem. As long as you find a wedge style hood they should all fit the same I do belive.

the older hoods like that shouldn't be hard to find at all, just try to find snowmobile salvage shops in your area. I live up in ND and there are easily 10-15 places within 50 miles of me. I'm assuming there are other area's would be like this.

Anything 1988 thru 1998, the "wedge" style and I think some of the smaller models still used that hood past '98 Hoods are unimportant, they make them every day. Get your boy back on his feet and tell the uncle to grow up.

Check this guy out he might have what you are looking for.

Thanks for the help. So if I am understanding everyone correctly it does not have to be even from the same model? I see various models with different venting but I am asssuming that it is mostly cosmetic and we can swap out models if desired.
PS Uncle is cool with the damage and was just happy that my son was not injured seriously. We just want my son to understand the risk of using other peoples property.
Thanks again for all the help. The ideas have been very helpful.

It's tough to be hard and not discouraging...can't get my boy very interested in the snowmobiles...and we have 6 of 'em...Definately a good time for a lesson in replacing people's stuff...But we all know it happens quick!! Ha Ha!!

Not all are the same.... The air box holes wont line up from a triple hood to a twin hood. 97-98 hood also has a different air breather on the top of the hood. It also matters what seat/ tank combo is on the sled too.

This sled has a 1 piece seat/tank any sled that has a 2 piece seat/tank combo has a larger gap on the side of the hood and the gap on the steering post is different too.

If it were me id find a 97-98 600-700 SKS, XC or RMK hood for the sled to make sure it works correctly.

Look on EBay!! There are lots of them at all prices!! I just checked

Thanks again for the input. As Freeride noted, I had seen where the air vents are different for a twin so the more specific year helps. Will keep looking. Ebay is not a very good option as the shipping is usually $200 from the east coast or midwest if they will ship at all. Might end up buying a parts machine if it is cheaper. Good thing the Superbowl is this weekend. Give us something to do instead.
