Need help tracking a license plate

Was in Montana for turkey day and suburban got sideswiped in the Helena target parking lot on Wednesday before. Called cops but they are having no luck. Someone saw it and left a note saying it was a ford f150 maroon with beige trim and a brush guard. They did not leave their phone number, but left a partial plate of P?P?TUT they did not specify what state plate it was. Local pepper will not let me post a LTE for info so if anyone here can help I would greatly appreciate it. If you have any info please call me at 218-244-5208
I don't get on here but a few times a year so calling is the best way.

Just a suggestion, probably a MT plate so could you phone the DMV saying you're interested in a vanity plate? Think of all the logical combinations with the partial you were provided and see what's taken. Would likely narrow it down to 1 or 2 plate #s.
Being from out of state, guy may not fix his vehicle right away thinking that you wont get to him from 2 states away.
Guess I don't understand why the police wont track it down if you file a police report. I could see them not giving a shart in a major city, but Helena isnt that big.
