Ok I am trying to get my sled ready for a ride tomorrow but running into a serious problem. I have a heat gun that I am shooting the pipes with about 3" out from the motor at idle. The clutch side cylinder is showing a temp of 160-175, the middle cylinder is showing 310-335, and the chaincase side is showing 130-155. Does anyone have any idea as to why the middle cylinder is so HOT?? As a comparison I started my wifes 800 Polaris and let it idle till warm and in about the same spot it showed 160 -180 on both cyls.

Also does screwing in the idle screw (44MM Mikuni round slides) thus increasing RPM's make it hotter or colder? I think they are close in adjustment but not perfect I am sure.

Make sure your pilot jets are all the same size. When it was set up a partsman could have sold three jets out of the same bin but had an odd ball in there. Also a carb sync is absolutly necessary for a clean running machine. Use the same size drill bit under the slides for hieght then make sure they all pull at the same time, after that who cares what temp they are at when it idles, its WOT you have to worry about.

if this started as an 809 the center jet is different than the other two usually, in stock form. bored, not sure of size change. but mine is fatter on the mag cyl with stock bore.
maby an air leak through your carb boot, mine had serious cracks you wouldnt notice unless you flexed the rubber?

So are you saying that I dont need to worry about the higher temp at idle for right now and just be careful watching plugs when I am riding?

BTW, started out as a 780.
