Need help installing aft. mrkt. forward steering post please., 2004 King Cat

I got an aftermarket "bent" steering post from a friend of mine. It came uninstalled with his King Cat and he doesn't want to install it... So I got it from him but I didn't get any Installation instructions? I'm not even sure who made it? No marks on it, still trying to track down the manufacture. Anyway, I know that I have to grind some of the motor mount and oil reservoir mount off for clearance and notch the hood too. does anyone have any pics, step by step or instructions that came with yours that I could use? Just want to make sure I do it right. Also, down by the uniball at the end, it has a little plastic nub sticking out that looks to be a temporary plug where a zerc should thread in? Anyone know about that?

Here are some pics, anyone recognize the manufacture?

thanks,

I just talked to Kurt (WildChild) he says it's not one of his... Anyone have another guess or know where I can get some installation instructions?
thanks.

P.S. he did say that isn't a zerc. fitting hole. just where the plastic bushing material is injected.

post a pic of it in comparison with the stocker if you would be so kind

I haven't taken the stock one out yet... I can take a pic of the top of it (the mounting plate) though if that would help? I do know it is about 1" longer than the stock one cuz I measured them. Do you think you might know who made it or are you just looking to see the differences? The stock one is straight, the bend in this one is too fit around the carbs / airbox when you move it forward, in front of the hoop.
thanks,

actually I just wanted to see the difference. when you get the old one ouy please snap a pic. I know cr and the ak mo shop built them.

I can't see where there would be anything other then take this off and that off, replace this replace that........seems real straight "forward":D

I hope to have it out by Mon. or Tue. I will post a pic up when I remove it. If I remember, I'll try and take some side-by-sides of the two for ya.

I know cr and the ak mo shop built them.

So, you're saying you think that's who made this one? "cr and the ak mo shop"? Who is that by the way?

From what I've read/heard, since the stocker is straight and this one has the bend in it to go around the carbs / intake, you have to notch the rear motor mount and the bracket that holds the oil res. Also have to notch the hood, since it's mounts in front of the hoop. Like I said, I'm sure I can figure it out, just would be nice to have some pics, tutorial, instructions... anything would help, LOL

So, I just pulled my old one out and put the new one in. Found out from a similar post here: http://www.snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1114049#post1114049 that mine is a CR-Racing post. ANYONE HAVE A WEB ADDRESS FOR THEM?

Just wanted to ad a side note...
I pulled mine out through the bottom but it was a major PITA. Mostly due to the fact that I had it up on saw horses, not a "real" snowmobile jack, so I had MANY clearance issues getting it out. Since it comes out the bottom, you will need A LOT of "wiggle room" to spin it and twist it and move it side to side, back & forth etc. I had way too many cross braces etc. set up between my skis setting on the saw horses so I had to drop it nearly straight down & out which was NOT good! Would have been MUCH easier if I could have wobbled it around a lot more. So, if anyone else reads this, keep that in mind when setting your sled up in the air.

Now, that said, when I put the new post back in, just for ****s & giggles, I tried to put it in from the top... slipped right in NO problem, MUCH easier! Might be because when re-installing it's in FRONT of the hoop instead of behind it, so you wouldn't be able to remove the OEM out the top? Don't know I didn't try but I would recommend if doing it again, try to pull the OEM one out the top and see if it works? If not, then Jack up, remove the belly pan and go through the bottom. Just leave a wide birth around the bottom where you will drop it out, so you can finagle it around a LOT!

EDIT: or just tip the sled on it's side and go out through the bottom rather than jacking it up.

Haven't finished yet, just got the bottom mounting done, now have to finish up the other mods I'm doing so I can lower the sled to finish it up. I can't turn the bars right now the way I have it jacked up... it's sitting on the skis, on 2x4's, across saw horse...

Anyway, thanks again. will post a final, final when I'm done.

Here’s your side-by-side pix Spring Snow Hero.

Happy New Year to you & yours!
