Need Help! Impulse line sizing

I'm installing an 800 engine in mountain cat and right now I'm hooking up the lines for the oil & fuel pump. The micro fiche calls for the impulse line to be 3/16" hose. Our auto parts store only has 1/4" and the closest AC dealer is an hour away and I don't care for them much anyways. My question is will the 1/4" hose work with some clamps or is the diameter of the impulse hose critical for proper operation???

1/4 will work, the size is not very important as long as it is tight on the fittings.
