I have three options at this point... And would love to hear your opinions. They definitely involve different financial commitment, but overall, I am looking for a reliable boondocking sled that will handle some deep pow as well. I live right on the main trail to some great Mountain riding, so let me know your thoughts-

Option 1) 04 King Cat, minor mods (snopro skis, lefty throttle, etc), mileage unknown, looks to be in good shape, $4500

Option 2) 05 SkiDoo Summit X 800 159 track, Felker setup, new top end, in really good shape, $5750

Option 3) I have a 08 XP X package 154 on hold till middle of the week. I would probably end up financing the remaining $4500, but it is at $10,400

Any honest opinions on these sleds are much appreciated. I have read for the last 4 weeks about the XP's, so I do not need any repetition over the belt/clutching subjects.

Buy the XP, ride it for the season and sell it in Canada at the start of next season and you will get your money back. My Canadian model was near $13,000.

Does anybody want to give any advice on the 05 800? I assume it would be a better sled to buy than the King Cat, but I just want to make certain I have done as much research as possible.

What about weight loss on the 05 800? Is it easy to drop some weight (seat, can, etc), I assume??

saving weight is at an average of a 100 dollars per pound of savings.if your looking for a used sled an 06 summit x would be your best bet. i sold mine in september with 300 miles on it for 7500, to give you an idea. matt

IMHO, go with the 05 800. That's a good sled at a decent price. I have no experience with Felker and his setups, but from what I have read, he sounds like a chance worth taking. Plus, you won't have to finance it. The 05 has been out long enough that any issues are well known. You can go to dootalk.com, look up the ttabs mod shop thread in the REV mountain section and learn A LOT of good info.

Ya, the 05 isn't the latest and greatest, but it's still a darn good sled and at a price you can afford. As you can afford it, you easily add more power and drop some weight, improve the clutching, etc.

If you can't tell, I'm a 'buy used and mod the hell out of it' rider. Let someone else take the HUGE depreciation hit and be the R&D guy for the first year model.
