Need advice on sled purchase

Hey everyone, first post for me here so here it is. I am looking to purchase a sled for the winter. I live in minnesota but might be heading out to wyoming in febuary. My current budget is about 1,600. I am looking at a 98 xc 600 with a 136"x1 1/2". Is this enough to at least get me around out there. I really will be using it in minnesota most of the time but need a cheap sled that will do both. Any advice or sleds as options would be good. I would prefer polaris cause that's what I'm familiar with. Thanks in advance.

If that's your budget that will be sufficent. You won't be putting the highmark on the hill but the sled will do ok. Don't forget to jet and clutch for the mountains. Heck, my son rode an 02' Pro X 440 fan in the mountains and did fine. Good luck.

Just to add a little info. I am 6'6" and 220 lbs. I am also looking at a 1997 700 sks with a 1 3/4" track. The 700 would be more powerful but would it be any better of a sled than the extended xc 600 with a little newer suspension? Is the 700 the same motor they used from 97 to 2000?

Either sled you mentioned should fit the bill just fine for what you want. I've ridden both 600's and 700's off and on for 20+ years, in 30 years of sledding, and either sled will perform well, in capable hands, in those conditions. It's all about in what YOU want and really like in each sled.

I believe the 700 is the same twin, though I'm not all together positive on that one.

Good luck and have a great time out there!!! :D

The 700 would be a little better option. The suspensions will be essentially the same. The extra 1/4" on the track will help a little and the 700 makes quite a bit more power. The engines are the same block with different top ends.
