hey guys..need some recommendations....for the last 10-12 yrs all I have worn sledding is a nmfh...(we ride in cold weather...alot of rides in -30 to -40 stuff..) anyway this year I am going to start wearing a moto-x helmet/goggles some..what have you guys found for face mask that will fit good with goggles, keep your face warm, minimize fogging and still allow you to breathe good?thanks for the help guys.....

FWIW, on cold days I just wear a thin polypro mask, and carry a spare. Been thinking about a no-fog though, just haven't pulled the trigger and tried one. Must be said, I can't remember the last -30 day, and -20 is just a distant memory...almost never ride below zero.

I use a full sized breathe box and wear a mountain hardware balaclava, I have a klim windstopper but I dont like it. Anything above 20f and I just use the nose piece that comes on the 509's.

I know but your spoiled...lol..hmm am going to have to run by the dealer someday and try some stuff on....:D

You could always trade your poo for a yammi that way your always workin up a sweat to keep warm. :p
LMAO
a sweat is one thing and killing a man is another.
Only ride to -20 and a good bacalvia (WhoTF knows how to sp this) covering everything else works for me on a moto x helmet and the nose piece on the goggles works.

On a side note if I was riding a yammi i would be in a tank top and shorts!

I wear a moto-x helmet (light weight) Spy goggles and a Klim windstopper bali. In addition I keep a thin neck gaiter that helps block the wind around the bottom of my helmet.

There is a second set of goggles/gloves under the hood in a mesh bag by the pipe to stay dry. I carry a thin Polaris polar fleece bali if the temps start warming up.

Since leaving Fairbanks where we rode until -30 I have not worn a full face helmet w/ heated visor and don't miss it at all.

I read that No-Fog has a new mask and may try that for some of the colder rides this season.

I like the Klim also

X2 on the klim balaclava for zero and above. I don't ride in really cold temps but when I have to, the standard balaclava does not cut it. The best way to go with a MX style helmet in cold temps is the no fog neoprene snorkel mask.

Why not keep the NMFH and MX helmets in your riding bag and choose the best helmet for the day?

I will keep the nmfh..problem is they no longer make electric sheilds for them(I have 3 of them between the kids and I)havent found another one i like compared to the one I have(its a blizzard that I bought in 02..)

I have a real thin balaclava and a thicker fleece polaris one for colder weather. Use a full sized HJC breathbox that velcros into my helmet. Works pretty good. And for trail burning I use a fleece Polaris neck gaitor/dickie type thing that I can fold up and tuck around the base of my helmet.

One thing I wish I had a mx helmet where the mouth piece sat closer to my face. Sits pretty far out on my Thor and it just makes getting the box, goggles, etc situated, that much harder.

I wear a MX helmet with a fleece balaclava that is thin to my nose than gets thick with fleece on cold days and mornings, on warm days just the a Klim or FXR balaclava.

Ride to -20 occasionaly and never us a baclava, I use a breathe box that comes down under my chin, It is made by the same manfac. that makes the scorpion line of helmets. Ill do some searching to see if I can find pics, I use spy goggles with it and it seals great. I got one of it on my head you can see the coverage it gives.

I've done my fair share of -20 and colder riding. I have a flylite helmet and wear a no fog and that keeps me plenty warm even in the cold temps. The only time I need to add more layers is when the wind is whipping in from the sides, in which case I throw a balaclava on as well.

Balaclava and goggles with a nose piece is the way to go. I have been riding with a Habervision Eliminator since this spring on my D/S and Street bikes. It has been working great so far, curious to see how it works at -30C though. The Eliminator is a small fan that mounts in most goggles and has a humidity sensor built into it. It can be set up to come on automatically when the humidity in your goggles gets to high or to run all the time. Check them out at www.habervision.com and enter affinity code; trax2treadz to purchase them at 50% of list if your interested.

Balaclava under my moto helmet. I really like the Klim Windstopper myself. It is pretty much always warm enough, but not too warm. I carry a thicker fleece balaclava in my pack just in case we get stuck in bad weather.

I use Underarmor. The seams are on the side instead of the center. Must have a weird shaped head or something, but that center stitching always gives me a headache. It seals well around goggles. I also have a fleece neck gaiter for xtra cold.

I think everyone agrees on the balaclava, etc. I also carry around a fleece neck gaiter like the person above for when the temp is below -20 and there is wind. Something that you should also consider is duct tape; we have ridden in high winds on lakes at -40 actual, where the only salvation was to tape off the entire front of the helmet with only the goggle lenses visible. Any gaps = frost bite. :beer;

I use a no fog down to 0. Don't ride past that anymore but used to add a polarfleece neck gator for sub zero temps. I usually tape off the mouth vent on my helmets too, doesn't make a difference with the no fog on but helps with windchill on warmer days when I'm riding without it.
